PLEASE HELP! Bachlorette Party in Chicago...
My bridesmaids and I will be traveling to Chicago the first weekend in May for my bachlorette party. I've never been to Chicago before. We would like to stay in a great hotel (maybe suite?) close to shopping/clubs etc. (I've heard good things about Michigan Avenue??) Any ideas for hotels, restaurants, sightseeing, spas, etc. would be extremely helpful!! Thanks in advance.

Erica-
If you want to be near the clubs, you want to be near Division St. We stayed at the Omni (a very nice suite) once and walked to Division St. Cabbing around downtown was very cheap so dinner and shopping is convenient too. The doorman hails a cab for you right at the front door of the hotel so we left our car valet parked at the hotel all weekend.

The Hyatt at the Water Tower on North Michigan Avenue (Million Dollar Mile) is wonderful. The bar, NoMi is cool with great views. Filene's Basement is right across the street as are tons of great shops. The Omni is also in a great location. Rush Street has great bars. Start your evening with cocktails at the top of the John Hancock Building. Have Sunday Brunch or afternoon tea at The Drake.

erica,
Agree with the NoMich/Mag Mile hotel location for you ladies. Some good ones going on Hotwire/Priceline the past few years.
In addtion to the Rush street area, we had a good time up off the Clybourn Corridor a few year back. We went to a Cubs game and afterwards our Chicago buddy took us to Uncle Julio's Hacienda on W. North St.
We then hoofed it over a few blocks west to Weed St. They were having some sort of street fair/festival.
Arts, crafts, food (I recall a few restaurants located there too?) and a ton o' music.
They shut down the road in that area which was very nice and a lot of fun.
Any Chi-locals recall this event and is it yearly? I think it was in August.

If you really want to splurge, stay at the Four Seasons on Michigan Ave. It's close to the best shopping, great bars and restaurants like Le Colonial and La Passage. The spa at the Four Seasons is spectacular as is the health club & pool. They do have some weekend deals at the Four Seasons, so check it out. Also, some smaller (and some boutique) hotels I'd recommend are Hotel Monaco, House of Blues Hotel, Hotel Sofitel, Le Meridien, Knickerbocker, Tremont. They all have their own unique charm and deals can also be found. All of these hotels are in a great location.
Go online to Zagats.com for restaurant & bar recommendations and metromix.com for events info.
If you don't stay at the Four Seasons, other great spas include: Kiva (Water Tower Place bldg), Maxine's on Rush St., Channing's on Oak St. and Urban Oasis on Maple St. for massages.
High tea at the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton or Drake is fun.

The Sutton Place is a great hotel in the heart of everything. There is a Whisky Bar in the lobby, great restaurants all around (Gibsons!)
Check out Cubs.com to see if there are any games that weekend, we had a bachlorette party in the bleachers...a big cocktail party with some (usually pretty bad!) baseball thrown in! We all wore cubs visors and the bride had a little veil from hers...super cheesy- but never paid for a drink all day!
A great restaurant is MK- very swanky, cool scene, great food (esp. desserts!)...request a table upstairs on the railing so you can see the whole scene!
Look up metromix.com to get listings of concerts, street fairs, restaurant reviews, spa reviews etc.
Hopefully the weather will break by then--6 degrees last night!
Have a blast!

Tea at the peninsula is the best. Schedule a wine tasting at bin 36. Division is pretty cheesy but perfect for bachelorette activities. Also check out Lincoln Avenue for bars. One idea is to arrange a trolley for the evening to take you to the different bars. Have drinks in the afternoon at Tavern on Rush. Split meals at Carmines or Rosebud. Paint your own pottery on armitage. www.metromix.com is a great option. Maxine is a great spa --quite understated and lovely.

>Erica, please let me know how much you want to spend. I have several very good suggestions, depending upon what type of room(s), how much, etc.
Any ideas for hotels, restaurants, sightseeing, spas, etc.
> What kind of food do you like? Off the top of my head, one fun recommendation for a group of friends is to eat at Cafe Iberico on LaSalle 1/2 block south of Chicago Avenue (very close to Michigan Ave). Very fun atmosphere, great tapas and excellent sangria. http://cafe-iberico.com/
Lots of other suggestions if you let me know what you'll be in the mood for. There are some terrific wine bars that attract good crowds, too. If it's nice out during the day, go to Melvin B's (1100 block of North State) and drink and people-watch. Food isn't bad for a bar, either. Or, Dublin's just a 1/2 block south also puts seats outside and has good food (excellent cheeseburgers to go with a Guiness if you're in the mood).
> Spas - try Channing's on Oak between Rush & Michigan Ave. They have very good packages, great old greystone building, and terrific service. Will go all out for a group, too ... champagne, freebies, etc. http://www.channings.com/
> Sightseeing: try one of the neighborhood bus tours for a different flavor of Chicago and the architecture river tour is good, too. Here is one company that offers a lot of different ideas:
http://www.chgocitytours.com/special.htm
Despite it being your first time in Chicago (or perhaps because it is), I would strongly suggest *not* going to the Division Street bars nor Navy Pier. Neither is the best Chicago experience and I live a few blocks from both areas.
I'll try to check back with more suggestions, or you are welcome to drop me an email at [email protected].
Congratulations & have fun!

Check out www.metromix.com for all the info on clubs, restaurants, bars and events around Chicago. Not sure if Blues music is your thing - but Chicago is where it all began! If so, check out the bar B.L.U.E.S and/or Kingston Mines. They're in good neighborhoods. Michigan Ave is cool but I wouldn't stay there. That's more for shopping and walking.

I thought I'd tell you that bachelorette parties are a speciality of the Baton Club, a nightclub that your party would enjoy. It's either on State or Randolph, right near Marina City and House of Blues. Good luck. Frank

I don't know about The Baton ... it's become pretty tame. I went to the late show on New Year's and it wasn mildly entertaining. It's become pretty touristy, so that may be one reason (they hawk t-shirts, mugs, whatnot right when you walk in). Having said that, it's a drag club with a very positive attitude and energy. Cover isn't too high and drinks are reasonable. If you are interested, it is on Clark Street just north of Grand Avenue (downtown, 5-minute walk from Michigan Ave.).

It would be my pleasure to help you ladies out as best I can. I'm a native and can show you all the hot spots to wine and dine, and take you to some of the tightest clubs in town. Grab the Ketel One and shake that ass, cause Big Money D is going to show you what side is dooown!
How about I drive you ladies around in my Escalade, show you the town. I got a TV in my steering wheel, and smoked black windows, and room for all of you.
Now, why don't we start off with a little champagne and strawberries, and I'll get to work on that neck pain you complained about from the flight...
