Go to Broadway musicals will depend on finding cheap ticket for the day at the TKTS Discount Booth. But I would like to see at least three shows among (in order of importance): The Panthom Of The Opera, Rock of Ages, Mary Poppins, The Fantasticks, Billy Eliot, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying; Forza Gross; Wonderland; Blue Man Group.

Probably, I will buy a New York Pass.

To eat, I maked a few options in Google Maps and will choose among them according to convenience.
Time Out NYC Cheap Eats - http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...1826eb15b8e18a
Other Options - http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...2b68f882815ac1

I am afraid for unable to perform all activities for lack of time. Maybe I could better distribute or eliminate some. And yet, did I forgot to put something?

So, I would like suggestions and advices.

ellenem May 12th, 2011 05:46 PM

Instead of standing on all those possibly-long TKTS lines, check the discounts currently available on broadwaybox.com. You can use the discount codes to purchase tickets online before you get to NYC or you can print the coupons with codes and bring them directly to the box office of the theater to purchase tickets. The theaters will have much shorter lines and you can still purchase a few days ahead.

I would not do all those museums in one day on your Day 4. I see you also have MoMA on Day 5.

Check online to see what the current exhibits are at the Guggenheim before paying the high admission price -- you may not be interested in the current exhibit.

On Day 7, St John the Divine a a long way to go from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden . . . doesn't really make sense to me. It might make a better stop on Day 8.

Sure, you "forgot" plenty that I might include. You also included things I would skip. Since we don't know your interests, we're not sure what you should add or subtract. For example, I understand why you might feel the need to go to both Century 21 stores, since the merchandise can vary from store to store. However, this is not true of the Apple Store--all the merchandise is the same--but if you love gadgets then perhaps that's a good use of your time. Neither store would be a good choice for me.

ellenem May 12th, 2011 05:49 PM

One thing you are missing: neighborhoods. There's no Greenwich Village on your list, no East Village, no Soho, no Union Square, no Lower East Side . . . These don't have the major sights, but they are areas where you will find real New Yorkers living life, as well as local shops and restaurants instead of nationwide chains.

ZiDenis May 12th, 2011 06:25 PM

Thanks Ellenem!

I will check the broadwaybox.com .

I do not have a very very specific interest. Just wanted to see as much as I can for a first visit, without a bankrupt.

I will check the Guggenheim, maybe I'll just look the outside for some photos.

As to the MoMA and Met, is it ok to see on the same day or is too tiring? I will go to MoMA on day 4 if I buy the NewYorkPass or day 5 if not (free entry after 4PM in day 5). I will not go two times to MoMA.

You're right, I need to better plan your day 7. I would like to visit St. John the Divine but I'm not sure on which day to fit.

The Century 21 manhatham I will only if I have free time and in day 2 by being nearby. Apple Store chelsea I put as a strategic point where I could use the wifi because I'll be in the region.

I will study how do I include neighborhoods in the schedule.

Thank you.

Austin May 12th, 2011 06:26 PM

My first suggestion is to change your hotel. Stay in Manhattan if at all possible. You will be glad you did. I would never consider staying in Brooklyn.

I think you are doing way too many things each day, and not making time to really experience NYC instead of "seeing things". It will be a whirlwind and you will have little memories. If the only things that are optional are the *'s, then I'd get rid of all of them (though I agree with ellenem that there are several of your choices I would remove.) I think you are making a big mistake by having a Broadway show optional. I think at least one is mandatory. :) In 8 days, I'd probably see 3 or so.

I agree with Ellenem. You really should see the neighborhoods she mentions. Let us know if you are flexible at all on these things.

nytraveler May 12th, 2011 06:30 PM

First -your days are VERY busy. You haven;t left yourself time for the joys of NYC, walking through the different neighborhoods and getting a feel for the flavor. Having dinner in a sidewalk cafe and people watching. Window shopping - or in some places real shopping afterward (some places stores are open until 11 or 12 pm). Visit the upper west side, the Village and the East Village for a start.

You have an awful lot of "stuff" listed (Mme Tussaud's M&M store) which are really just a waste of time for adults, while packing several major museums into one day. Day 4 is not doable and Day 5 will walk your feet off. You can easily spend several days in the Met, MoMA deserves half a day. The Guggenehim isn't my favorite - but if you want to see it - then allow several hours. Or consider some of the dozens of other museums (I find Natural History a wonder - for people of all ages).

You also haven't really looked at immigrant New York - what made us - and is still making us - who we are. You should head for the Tenement Museum - and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum is brilliant.

For B'way tickets - buy them discounted before you go to avoid all that standing on line at TKTS. You will be able to pick the shows you want and get better seats - and won;t waste a lot of time.

Aduchamp1 May 12th, 2011 07:33 PM

Your schedule is hurried. I love Boston, but eight days is a lot there. Whatever you do in Boston, please go to see the glass flower collection at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. It is the most extraordinary craftsmanship I have ever see.

http://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/on_exhib...ollection.html

Days 3,4,and 5 in NYC are unrealistic and please do not waste your money at Bubba Gump's. And as others mentioned, you should try and stay in Manhattan. And as NYTraveler and Ellenem stated you are missing many of the best parts of NYC.

Aduchamp1 May 12th, 2011 07:38 PM

I just noticed that you want to go from Brooklyn to St. John's. That is an hour subway ride on the weekends.

St John's should be part of the day with Central Park because they are all on the upper west side.

And yes Harvard is in Cambridge not Boston.

ZiDenis May 13th, 2011 01:32 PM

ellenem, austin, nytraveler, Aduchamp1 - many thanks.

I cannot change the hotel because I booked by hotwire.com. Luckily I saved a lot in comparison to staying in Manhattan. I think it was worth it.

I did some changes based on your suggestions. Is is better now? I should cut off something else? how can I include the neighborhoods?

Again, try to book a hotel in Manhattan..And the bset part of NYC is walking through the neighborhoods as stated by other posters. You really should visit those mentioned by Aduchamp1..Greenwich Village, West Village.
Where are you traveling from to NYC? Will you be dealing with jetlag? Also, be prepared for crowds at Penn Station.

azzure May 13th, 2011 02:20 PM

I would do Battery Park and the Staten Island Ferry on Tuesday when you will be downtown, instead of trying to include it with all the midtown sites on Thursday. I also think Ellis Island is not to be missed, but I don't see how you could squeeze it in with all you've got planned already.

ellenem May 13th, 2011 02:37 PM

The hotel location is not as bad an option as another Brooklyn location might be. It is right near Borough Hall where the OP can connect to virtually every subway line. Be sure to take a walk on the Brooklyn Heights promenade.

Aduchamp1 May 13th, 2011 02:46 PM

Getting closer.

Do not move B & H to Friday afternoon or Saturday they are closed.

The famous people at Green-Wood are spread out. They have maps at the office and the main entrance is the sole way in during the week.

Please also note that they do not give much notice at Penn Stattion as to which track the train will arrive. It is a mad rush down stairs or an escalator. Also do not pay extra for the Acela, the train cannot speed up until it passes the city of New Heaven.

happytrailstoyou May 13th, 2011 02:49 PM

Your schedule sounds a little hectic to me. On Day 4, for instance, you plan to bike and picnic in Central Park, go to a Broadway show, and explore these three museums:

Metropolitan Museum of Art
Museum of Modern Art - MoMA
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

All this activity may make you too tired to enjoy your honeymoon.

HTTY

ZiDenis May 13th, 2011 07:59 PM

@HappyTrvlr, I cannot change the hotel. I'm thinking of how I'm gonna add these neighborhoods in the schedule. I'm traveling from Brazil (about 8 hours in air), so Jet Lag is something that concerns me.

@azzure, I'll pass by Ellis Island two times (circle line cruises at evening and Staten Island ferry at morning), so I thought that I could skip the island.

@ellenem, thanks for the Heights Promenade advice.

@Aduchamp1, thanks for the B&H advice, it's a must do for me. I won't go to the Green-Wood to see the grave of any famous person, but for the pictures I saw I believe it is very beautiful and different from the cemeteries that we have here in Brazil. So I thought it would be good for a morning walk while the Century 21 does not open the doors. Thanks too for the advice about Penn Station, I already bought tickets for the Amtrak train (reserved coach, not Acela) that part of NYC at 00:30PM and arrives at 04:40PM in Boston Back Bay.

@happytrailstoyou, I put a new schedule above, after the first, in that I try to solve these problems.

Again, many thanks to you all and I'm still open to new suggestions.

Nelson May 13th, 2011 08:30 PM

You're going to need your subway pass! :)

A couple blocks from the Tenement Museum is The Pickle Guys store, where you can taste some fantastic sour pickles and sour kraut.
http://www.pickleguys.com/

If I remember correctly there is a an excellent bagel bakery a block away on Grand Street. Get a real NY bagel and some cream cheese with chives!

Make sure you try a slice of NY pizza and some Italian pastries somewhere.

Cafe Dante in Greenwich Village has been a favorite of ours for a cappuccino and sfogliatelle.
http://www.caffe-dante.com/1190748.html

Great bulk coffee store around the corner:
http://www.portorico.com/store/

Lot's of gems like this to stumble upon.

When you come out of Macy's on Day 6 see if you can time it to go up the Empire State Building for sunset. It is spectacular.

Have fun!

Aduchamp1 May 13th, 2011 09:12 PM

B & H sells over $1 billion of equipment to Brazilians. It started many years ago when a few Brazilians would buy the cameras in NY and re-sell them back home. B & H did away with the middleman and they have a whole crew that speaks Portuguese.

I am not sure of the place that sells bagels on Grand Street but there are two places you should try. Kossar's Bialy's. Bialy's are made from something like pizza dough but they originated in Eastern Europe. And farther up the blcok is Donut Plant, which could make the best donuts in NYC.

By coincidence I visited the Pickle Guys, Kossar's, and Donut Plant today. The sane warning as B & H, Pickle Guys and Kossar's are closed on Friday afternoons and Sundays.

Nelson May 14th, 2011 11:59 AM

That is a coincidence that you were at he Pickle Guys, aduchamp1.

<i> >Pickle Guys and Kossar's are closed on Friday afternoons and Sundays.</i>
Correction there, I think you meant Saturday instead of Sunday.

Enjoy your pickles!

Aduchamp1 May 14th, 2011 03:36 PM

You are absolutely right Nelson they are closed on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Sorry for the typo.

yellowpellican May 14th, 2011 05:15 PM

You will have to clone yourself to accomplish everything on your list. Even New Yorkers do not pack so much into a day. People watching is a big part of the NY scene and visiting the maojr museums requires a bit more time to absorb and enjoy the exhibits. I would consider staying in Manhattan and rethinking the numbers of sites in a day. Stop and smell the roses..

nytraveler May 14th, 2011 05:57 PM

It's fine to see the Statue of Liberty from a distance. the Ellis Island Immigration Museum is filled with many dozens of fascinating exhibits about immigrants from all parts of the world, how they got to NYC, how they lived here and what they contributed to the city and the country. to understand any of this (and our immigrant past is a huge part of who we are - esp NYC with immigrants from more than 110 countries) you will need at least a couple of hours in the museum. About a thousand times more worthwhile than an M&Ms store or Mme Tussauds.

Austin May 14th, 2011 07:15 PM

Days 2 & 5 are still very busy. They would require about 10 hours. Are you willing to do that?

ZiDenis May 29th, 2011 11:32 PM

Nelson, Aduchamp1, yellowpellican, nytraveler, Austin - thanks.

Here I am again.
Researched more and made many changes in programming.
I bought tickets to the Ballet on Friday.
I removed the Tenement Museum for incompatibility of time.
I would like to visit the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island, but do not know if I will be able.
The ride through the boroughs and "people watching" I'll try to fit when running the programation.

Guys, Some more tips?

Below I put the new version of the schedule with some time details. Thanks.

Well - I am GLAD you are not bike riding in Central Park. Hopefully you will see lots of things by accident or on purpose between Century 21 Brooklyn and that Broadway show.

thestarryeye.typepad.com/explorenyc

(maybe tenement museum and LES on the Monday - leave your purchases in the hotel!)

My wander in the East Village alphabet city and LES

http://thestarryeye.typepad.com/expl...d-present.html

tchoiniere May 30th, 2011 04:06 AM

I don't see the need to do both the TOTR and the Empire State Building. I would just do the TOTR - you get a great view of the ESB from there and there are less lines.

Aduchamp1 May 30th, 2011 05:24 AM

On Day Two I would go to the Century in Manhattan. Once you are done, there are many things to do, see, and ecplore. And it is probably easier than getting to the one 86th Street in Brooklyn. There is little else to see there except see where John Travolta sold paint In Saturday Night Fever.
I strongly advise against going to the Brooklyn store.

The most time the High Line will take is 2 hours and Chelsea Market, even if you eat there, will take no more than 2 hours.

And as SueNY indicated there are many nieghborhoods worth exploring on foot and you have not dedicated at time to that.

nytraveler May 30th, 2011 05:39 AM

On Sat you cannot spend 12 hours in the Met and also in Central Park. that is a perfect day to explore the upper west side. Depending on the wether see some of Central Park in the morning or afternoon and the other part of the day in the Met. Then spend the evening on the upper west side. There are many dozens of sidewalk cafes on Columbus, Amsterdam or Broadway and this is a wonderful mid/upscale residential area to explore. Tell us what types of food you are interested in (yo can find almost anything) and people will make recos for places to eat. Then afterward stroll up and down Broadway window shopping. Consider visiting the Barnes & Noble - open until midnight - and checking out some of the other shops.

If you have time before dinner - while it is still light spend a few minutes looking at the beautiful mansions on Riverside Drive, as well as Riverside Park and the view of NJ across the Hudson. (Central Park West is lined with multi-million dollar co-ops, while the mansions on Riverside Drive are either broken into apartments - usually one per floor - or still privately owned - again multi-million dollars each.)

Fra_Diavolo May 30th, 2011 06:40 AM

One caution on the UWS -- beware the battalions of baby strollers and the legions of mindless lemmings walking around with their noses glued to their smart phones. They do not see you.

dimur May 30th, 2011 07:05 AM

Hello ZiDenis,
My husband n I did this trip for our honeymoon and I have great memories (we are from CA). Your itinerary looks great to me, especially if you can approach it as a 'loose plan' and are willing to 'scrap' a whole day if your new wife would like to browse through shops or take a nap. You will enjoy each other and NY so much more if rested and flexible.
Good luck and have a great time!

HowardR May 30th, 2011 07:45 AM

I'll have to disagree with nytraveler. Maybe you can't spend 12 hours at the Met and Central Park, but 10 hours in that combination sounds like a great day (assuming, of course, the weather cooperates for the time in Central Park).
However, if you do this, it's important that you start off the day at the museum when it opens at 9:30, spend the morning there, have lunch and then do a relaxing exploration of Central Park. It's important that you schedule it this way, since the museum gets more crowded as the day progresses, and the afternoon crowds can indeed be overwhelming.

SueNYC May 30th, 2011 01:07 PM

If you stroll up to the Met through the Park early in the morning, dogs are allowed off leash until 9 so the scene on the Great Lawn is hilarious. Owners know each other's dogs but they don't know each other's names.

nytraveler May 30th, 2011 05:32 PM

I didn;t mean they couldn;t spend 2 huors between the 2 but that they couldn;t spend 12 hours in the Met - or they would end up with museum brain freeze. If they mix with a tour of central park and take the opportunity to see a nearby neighborhood the day would be much more enjoyable.

ZiDenis Jun 1st, 2011 01:28 AM

@SyeNYC - I'll try to fit LES between the C21 and the Broadway Show.

@tchoiniere - A night view of the city was recommended to me in the ESB. But my priority is the view of TOTR.

@Aduchamp1 - I prefer the C21 Brooklyn because I will stay there. The metro transportation is convenient. Anyway, I will return to the hotel to make purchases. I read that the C21 of Manhathan is crowded.

@nytraveler - I'll try to visit the UWS and UES on day 5 and/or day 6. I do not want to stay 12 hours at the Met, the time listed is the working hours of that day.

@Fra_Diavolo - hehehe. Thanks for the warning.

@DiMuro - I certainly will take the plan as a "loose plan". I just do not want to waste time thinking what to do. I want to have everything in the head to optimize the time to the maximum.

@HowardR - Thanks for the tip. I try to go early to the Met.

Thank you all.

ZiDenis Jun 1st, 2011 01:52 AM

I still don't understand day 2. Am hoping you will find Cent 21 Brooklyn or wherever you are going to shop in Brooklyn, bring your stuff back to your hotel and then spend the rest of the day meandering to your Theatre and just exploring whatever pleases you that is not listed in the rest of your exhausting schedule.

I live on UWS, and I do not understand its attraction to tourists. The area around Lincoln Center makes more sense to me. It is both residential as well as major restaurant, sights (Lincoln Center) and near Central Park. Central Park West around Museum Natural History interesting. But UWS Broadway 70's and 80's...good place to live, but most interesting if you want to count the number of twins in double strollers and kids on Razors.

Bubba Gump is less than mediocre. And Tuesday is just a waste of a day in the middle of otherwise overstuffed schedule.

One thing we've done that we loved is the food tour of Greenwich Village. It's a beautiful area and so great to get out and walk around the neighborhood - lots of great little charming restaurant and bakery stops. I would highly recommend it if you get the chance.

We most often stay on the UWS when we are in Manhattan because we have good friends who live there. I love it there, and although it wouldn't be no. 1 on my list for tourists, I would definitely recommend it to tourists who want to "see how the natives live".

i have taken the circle line cruise numerous times and i think they give a great overview of the city.for this reason i would try to go as early in the week as possible.
