Plantations - Evergreen, Oak, Laura?
 

Hi Gang - Is it worth going to Laura Plantation given the fire on August 9th? I would definitely have gone prior, but not sure if it's worth it with the damage. If not Laura, which ones would you visit? As always, thanks for your invaluable help!!

Look at each place's website. Personally...I'm just drawn to Evergreen.
Do a search for River Road Plantations ,you may get some good info that way.

If you rent a car then you can see both and also continue on for a view or tour of Oak Alley. Very simple driving with the ability to stop and eat at B&C next to Laura. :)

When we were in NO, we took a tour of Laura and Oak Alley. I loved Laura Plantation, not just for the structure itself, but for the story of the people who built and lived on the place. I would go back, damage or not. Oak Alley was the other plantation that we toured and it was absolutely beatiful. The house itself was grand, but it didn't grab me. It was the oaks that stole the show. I have read a lot about Evergreen and want to visit on our next trip. We will more than likely rent a car next time, but there is something to be said for taking a tour since you don't have to do anything - just go along for the ride.

I can't comment on the other two, but Oak Alley is absolutely beautiful. It was exactly how I pictured (in my own head) how a plantation on the Mississippi would look.

I think I caught a glimpse of the Laura Plantation on the way there (or maybe it was another of the famous ones), and it looked very intriguing. But Oak Alley with that big old house and those trees in front of it.....wow!

When we were in NO in January, I bought the book on Laura. I had visited a few years ago when it was first open for tours. The book is about the plantations name sake and was very interesting.
