Plantation tour with young teenage boys

Hey all, just starting to plan our TX/LA trip for the spring. We'll be driving to NOLA from Austin, stopping in Breaux Bridge for a few days. I've been reading up on the plantations we might visit en route to New Orleans and I'm wondering which one you think would be most interesting for the younger set? Kids are interested in history. Any thoughts on which plantation might be best (assume we can visit only one)?

Thank you!

Laura, which is a Creole plantation.

I second Laura Plantation. I took my teen boys to Laura and Oak Alley and they definitely preferred Laura. Our tour guide did a great job presenting the history.

I triple that thought, we loved both Laura and Oak Allee - we went on a tour but I can't remember the name of the company. It was well worth the money to get the historical information and stories

Laura. And you don't need a tour co., they do guided tours at the plantation.

Take a swamp tour too - them's good eatin'! (or at least it's interesting).

I think the best two are Oak Alley and The Nottoway. The Laura is a Creole Plantation, which is also very interesting(but not as dramatic), IMOP. Houmas and San Francisco Plantations are also good.

I second the recommendation for Houmas House - that is my favorite thus far. The tour is great and the house has the grand presence that we all have come to expect. The house itself is quite interesting, having been built in 3 distinct phases.

I liked Laura a lot too - that would be my 2nd choice.

Maybe we should do two, Laura and Houmas - they both look interesting (and different). How long does each take to tour (assuming we don't linger too much since the boys like to keep moving)?

txtree,

Did you look at Nottoway and Oak Alley?

Here is a link to the Homes that we did
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/w...0IatW7FqybsWqr

Pretty sure about below
1-3 are San Francisco
4-10 are Laura
11-21 are Oak Alley (I think they have an alley from and back)
22--32 are of Houmas
33--50 are of Nottoway
50-59 are N.O.

Kids are interested in history.
Which is why I suggested Laura.

Thanks for the pictures, spirobulldog. They all look pretty amazing (love the alleys at Oak Alley). We'll definitely do Laura (particularly since my kids would have been considered Creole back in the day), but maybe one of the splashier homes too.
