Planning winter Hampton getaway
 

Wondering if shops, restaurants, nightlife is alive and somewhat kicking during January. Can anyone make recommendations on a place to stay, restaurants, entertaiment, etc. I've been in Boca way too long.

Plenty of places will be open in Easthampton and Southampton. The year round population is increasing.

If you are referring to the Hamptons in NY state,yes, they are alive and well all winter long.A little less people,a little more quiet,less traffic,which makes it even better! There are pretty good prices for the inns and hotels that are open, some are on the beach in Amagansett and they have small kitchens,can be quite cozy watching the ocean from a warm room.I believe one of these places is called the Dunes.Here are places that I have stayed in ,so I would recommend them,although there are plenty of inns,motels etc..The Maidstone Arms Inn -Main St,E.Hampton-The Dutch Inn on the Montauk Highway,The East Hampton Hotel on Main St.The Maidstone has a good restaurant..Then there is Montauk,you can look at that with www.onmontauk.com. We go there often off season and love it.

Shops and restaurants are certainly open and c is absolutely correct about fewer people, and less traffic--both good things. The recommendation for the Maidstone Arms is spot on and the restaurant there is fantastic. The Mill House Inn on North Main is very nice. I'm not sure which East Hampton Inn on Main St. c is referring to, though. For a fun pub scene, go to Rowdy Hall near the movie theatre. Wander around Sag Harbor and have a romantic mid-winters lunch at the American Hotel. Nightlife this time of year is practically nonexistent, though.
