Planning first trip (with a group) to Vegas and I have questions!

Hello,

A bunch of my girlfriends and I are going on a girl's weekend to Vegas at the end of October. We are all spread throughout the US and Canada and meeting there. What's your best advice for when to make airline & hotel reservations, meaning when should we expect to see deals?

Also, there will be some in our group doing 4 to a room. We want to be on the Strip. What hotels would you suggest for us?

Thanks!

Depends on what you want to do as to where to stay. Bally's is center Strip, usually decent price. Don't forget, unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your hotel room, don't go for the high dollar rooms!! Try cheapovegas.com for rates. I've stayed at Luxor-too far south. Also New York New York. Again, south end of Strip. It's a long walk from one end to the other. There is the New Frontier, Stardust, as well as many other lower rate rooms. There are a lot of Vegas packages too. Also, try lowestfares.com, qixo.com for flights. They are pretty reasonable right now-at least from MI. Have a great time!!! It's a great place to go!!!

What is your room budget? What is important to you in the place you stay? What do you like to do? There are probably lots of choices. My first reaction is to suggest NYNY for the activity that goes on there and a nice South Strip location.

Right now it looks like our budget is about $100 per person, per night with 4 people sharing. Ideally we'd like to get at least one suite, some folks are willing to pay more.

Mostly we are all just looking forward to being together. But I think a good pool is key, as I can see that being a big hangout spot. I don't think we are planning any shows. But I know a few of us are interested in spa treatments.

Thanks for your help!

We're doing a similar trip in Feb. and we're all staying at the Monte Carlo-- about $110. per night and seems to be a good central location.

Consider the excellent Venetian, where you can sleep 4 to a room if don't mind sharing 2 beds. Standard rooms have a king bed and good sleep-sofa. If you're prepared to take a risk and leave booking until 1 week before arrival, with a bit of luck you can get a heavily discounted room through priceline.com.

Garden,

At $400 a night you have lots of options including not sharing a bed. May I suggest you transfer some of that budget to entertainment...show, clubbing, gambling, whatever. You can get a very nice room at the Monte Carlo with a good pool area, each have your own bed and still be under budget.

You could go to the Flaming with a nicer pool area for even less. The Hotel is a bit older but the location is fantastic. Personally I like the Paris for your type of group but the pool is nothing special.

Or...how about doing the Mandalay Bay..Hip place with the best pool, but the location is not center strip.

Lots of choices!

A really nice room in Vegas means nothing to me, not that I want a dump, but I'm hardly ever there. I think the Flamingo is more than adequate- can't beat the location, across from Caesar's, and great pool. Use the money you save on a room for eats and gambling.

For airlines, I would expect to see the best rates popping up in late July or early August. There is usually a sale that pops up just after labor day, too.

For rooms, October can be tricky in Las Vegas due to some conventions. I would book something in June at the latest, something changeable-refundable, then check back for special deals in early September.

Monte Carlo, MGM and T I all usually have some special prices for regular rooms for those in your group that are on a budget, plus some nicer mini-suites available too. The pool at Monte Carlo is nice, and there are tons of nice, casual restaurants in the vicinity, at the MC, NYNY and Bellagio. A suite with a view of the Bellagio fountains should be requested if you end up here!

It sounds like you are interested in spending quite a bit of time at the hotel if you don't plan on shows and do plan on spas and pools. Therefore, I would not suggest one of the older hotels if it hasn't been updated but I would go for one of the newer ones. Check out the websites for the various ones you are interested in as they should have lots of pictures. Depending on the dates you choose even some of the more "upscale" hotels often have good price discounts. Wish I knew specifics but the Bellagio, Mandalay, Luxor and Venetian all looked nice to me when I visited inside (but didn't stay). I didn't get to too many of the others. Have fun!

Hey, sounds like fun!! I have planned a few "girls trips to Vegas" myself. We tried out several hotels and found that we liked Treasure Island the best. Great location(basically central strip). They have an awesmone spa. We enjoyed the pool everyday that we were there and weren't disappointed. The rooms were great, we also did 4 to a room and didn't feel too crowded. We booked our trips through a tour company because it was cheaper. Frontier airlines has one that we like to use. I don't know if that will accomodated everyone from different places (we came from the same state) but it was easy and less expesive then booking seperatly. If you are going to spend time at the pool, try getting a cabana. Its awesome and you get to have it all day, so when we decided to get out of the sun and go walk around we took turns going to the room to get ready and made the cabana our spot to gather before heading out for the evening. Plus you get extras for having the cabana, like a fruit tray, soda and water in the fridge, there is a t.v., floats, nicer lounge chairs and a cabana boy!! It's worth it!!!!!!!!

I also have recently posted about a trip to Vegas in June with 3 or 4 girlfriends. The friend who came up with the idea has her heart set on Bellagio but it seems to be the most expensive. I am concerned about how many of us may end up going. If we end up with 5 or 6 then we will have 3 to a room at the most, and that will be very expensive. And it doesn't seem to make much difference if you have a room or suite. All the suites seem to just be a separate bedroom with the added living space of the living room, etc. and maybe his and her bathrooms so it does not sleep more than 4 people not matter what. Another reason we want to stay at Bellagio is to help our chances of getting tickets to "O".

If you're looking for the lowest "themed"
casino/hotel on the strip try Excalibur.
We've stayed there several times and are
going back this June. They always have had the lowest rate and their location was
fine for us. It's very easy to get to from the airport...taking the taxi is cheaper (if more than 1 person) than the shuttle because it's so close. You can check the locations of all the hotels on many Vegas websites.
Keep an eye on rates...by the summer you should see deals. I live in Pennsylvania and have never paid more than $235...even lower on some occasions. Have fun!

While I respect everyone's right to their own perspective and taste, I must say that IMO Excalibur is simply the worst hotel built in LV in the last 15 years. There is nothing nice about this hotel (relative to its competitors) except the price.
And for a group of adults to go there, to a hotel which largely attracts familes (read: zillions of kids), LV doesn't even feel like and adult getaway.

I have stayed at Luxor and Excallibur and would not recommend either for a girls weekend. Excallibur is not that nice and has too many kids/families and although Luxor is nice, the location is too far from the center of the action. I would recommend Ballys, Flamingo, Monte Carlo or Treasure Island if you don't want to spend a fortune on rooms.
