Planning a Shmoozy Event in San Diego--help!!!!!!!!

I posted a message similar to this one about a week ago, and I just looked for it and it is missing, so I thought I would try again. Sorry to do this twice.<BR><BR>I am entertaining a big group of people (from 100-200) in San Diego and I need a fabulous location to have a party--restaurants or other fun locations are great. I remember from last week, someone suggested a place that was sort of exclusive and fancy? If you recall the name of it, or think you have any ideas, I would be so appreciative. Thanks so much!!!

Maybe we could help you out better if we knew the definition of "shmoozy."

Jori, we stayed at the Catamaran Resort and it is fabulous with the ocean in front of it and a bay behind it. Wonderful food at the restaurant, too. I think this is the place I would pick if I were holding a party. <BR><BR>http://www.catamaranresort.com/cat-index1.html

Liz, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to call you Jori. I'M Jori. (how embarrassing!)

Liz, The place that a couple of us suggested was the University Club. You would only be able to use it if your planner somehow has access - it is a very exclusive club.

Thanks very much! I will look into the University Club today. <BR><BR>Oh, and SHMOOZY: "Fancy, Impressive, etc., maybe with even an air of snobbishness"<BR><BR>I am no snob, though, just for the record. Thanks again!

Thanks for clearing up what you meant by "shmoozy". You had me really confused, since I was under the impression it meant a real low key, casual get together, as in, "I'm getting together with some pals to have a drink & shmooze a bit." Didn't quite fit with a gala for 200.

I recently moved from San Diego to Seattle after 20 years in San Diego. I owned a catering business and here are some locations that come to mind:<BR><BR>Reuben H. Fleet Center<BR>Stephen Birch Aquarium<BR>La Jolla Bridge Club -- private facility right on La Jolla Cove<BR>Paradise Point Resort<BR>Rent a Steamwheeler from the Bahia -- the larger boat (William Evans?) can accommodate up to 200 people -- it's beautiful<BR>Dinner cruise/party on Hornblower Yachts<BR><BR>Email me directly if you need additional help/suggestions

"shmooze" to me has always meant ...chatting someone up....nothing snobbish about it ..<BR>may be too much a NE/NY kind of word?

I second the boat on Mission bay. My neice had a bat mitzva (sp?) party on one and it was GREAT! Sit down dinner upstairs and dj and buffet on the lower level for all the teens. They just putter around the bay, so no seasick problems. They ordered fireworks too, but that was 3 years ago, so I'm not sure how they did it.
