places to stay in homer, valdez and seward alaska

i am planning a trip to alaska for sept 2012. we plan to drive around the anchorage area, staying in valdez, seward and homer. I'm trying to find options for places to stay that would be nice and memorable--but i hope not more than $250-$300 per night. being on the water would be nice but not necessarily a requirement. B & Bs are an option. we are a couple in our 60s. i have been once and am familiar with the holiday inn express in seward and the land's end resort in homer, which would be ok..

any suggestions? thanks.

Take a look at the Angel,s Rest cabins in Seward. Right in the water at Lowell Point.

In Homer, try Alaskan Suites.

We have just spent 3 weeks in Alaska staying in B&B's. In Homer we stayed in Dream Catcher, we would recommend this place. There is a lot to do in Homer, we did sea kayaking which was amazing.

I stayed at the Seward Windsong Lodge in Seward. It's about a mile or two outside of town, but has a shuttle service. It's on a lake or river, I can't remember for sure. It's okay, nothing special, but it was in a nice peaceful setting.

We stayed at the Kenai Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing, the Mermaid B&B in Homer, and the Mt. Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. All very nice.

The Kenai Princess is on the river, and the Mt. Alyeska is a short drive from a fishing stream. The Mermaid is downtown, not on the spit, but a couple blocks from the water.

I can happily recommend all 3 b&b's we used on this trip. I don't believe any were outside your price range.

In Homer we stayed at the Beach House B&B and I highly recommend it. The view is outstanding, and they have a lovely woodfired hot tub you can sit in to enjoy it.

In Seward we stayed in the Falls House Inn which was quite nice, and right in town. You can walk from there to small boat harbor where the Kenai Fjords tours leave from.

In the area around Girdwood we stayed at Hidden Creek B&B, which was very comfortable, not far from Alyeska and the tram. And the breakfasts were absolutely fantastic.

If you want to see pictures and some more details, feel free to check out my blog from last years trip:

Check out Lands End Resort and Spa at the end of the spit in Homer. We were lucky enough to have whales just offshore from our room. The restraunt has a great halibut dinner as well.
