Places for photography
Hello,
I'll be in Hawaï for 2 weeks at the end of march. 1 week on O'ahu and the second on a cruise around the Islands. I love landscape and nature photography. I know that Hawaï is spectacular for photography but I would like to know if anybody knows special places not too much frequented by tourists. If so, tell me how to get there. I thank you very much |
I am going too! I bought a book recommended by many fodorites...Oahu Revealed (they also have them for Maui and the Big Island).
I noticed while reading the Maui version, they speak about not well known places and call out great photographic spots. 8-) |
On Oahu:
Lyon Arboretum - Just past Manoa Falls trailhead. Haiku Gardens & Byodo In-Temple (Valley of the Temples) Both in or near Kaneohe on Kahekili Hwy. Waimea Valley Audubon Center (formerly Waimea Falls Park) North shore at Waimea Bay Foster Gardens near downtown honolulu on Vineyard Blvd. Round Top Drive/Tantalus Drive - Pu'u Ualaka'a State Wayside - One of the best overhead views of a city in the country. Kapiolani Community College - near the entrance to Diamond Head. Has a cactus garden with huge cactus. La'ie Point in La'ie Turn at the only stop light in La'ie Pu'uo Mahuka Heiau - Take Pupukea Road (stoplight at Pupukea -Shark's Cove). Park on the side of the road where Pupukea Road intersects where you see a sign for the Heiau. Walk back about 1/2 block to a place where it overlooks Waimea Bay. Drive to the Heiau (about a mile) and park at the Heiau parking area. Walk down about 100 yards or so on a red dirt trail. Great view of Waimea Bay. Here's a link that lists many of the botanical gardens in the islands. http://www.hawaii.edu/sciref/botgarden.html Lots of info: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34696831 |
Dusty, do you live in Hawaii? I appreciate all the feedback you give to the website. You are very insightful!
I think we all should have to buy you a beer on our visits! ((b)) 8-) |
I am a photographer and I have found the Kilauea Lighthouse in Kauai absolutely beautiful. You have a nice ocean view there with plenty of birds there on a little island. I wish I could go back now.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think that the Islands will be the best place I can go for photography.

great suggestions dusty...i'm going to keep them in mind for an upcoming trip
even better than Oahu Revealed, a fav of mine, re photo spots is "Driving & Discovering Hawaii: OAHU, Honolulu & Waikiki." Although outdated, it still provides specific locales for terrific photo ops. A great resource in addition to OR. http://www.discoveringhawaii.com |
