Place to stay near Phoenix
I am attending graduation from University of Phoenix at the end of July. The ceremony is at the USAir Center. I would love to know of a romantic place to stay for a long weekend with my husband. We are renting a car and the ceremony is Saturday morning. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help! |
What kind of budget? If the sky is the limit I'd go for Sanctuary on Camelback but it is upwards of $400 night and often double that.
If you need to budget more I like Caleo just a few blocks north of Old Town Scottsdale because its small and cozy (for a resort)and the pool area is lovely. |
We saw the Royal Palms on the travel channel and now can't wait to stay there
Here's a booking site with information: http://www.tablethotels.com/Hotel |

Thanks for the information. We are planning to splurge abit but on a teacher salary...budgeting is necessary. I will check out a few of the options listed. I know nothing about the area and thought I might check in with those in the "know"!
Thanks! |
Hi..
I just checked on Expedia.com for the end of July for 3 nights and here is my recommendation and they are all Fab! Best bang for the buck is; Boulders Resort and Golden Door $129 5* Hotels that are very expensive during high season but one heck of a deal in July that are gorgeous but not so cozy unless you stay at the Royal Palms which is gorgeous for $249.. Phoenican Resort $229 5* Fairmount Resort $169 5 * Biltmore Resort $179 4.5* Sanctuary Resort $235 4.5* The Boulders/Golden Door in Carefree is stunning and for $129 a night is an incredible deal and they are seperate Casitas which is so cozy and perfect! Good luck and keep us posted. |
Another bargain for your consideration: The Scottsdale Millenium Resort is quite nice - not great, but certainly better than a motel - and offers rooms during the summer for $100 w/$100 credit in their restaurants and bar. Nice grounds, good pools, terrific location.
That special at the Boulders is indeed an exceptional rate, but the Boulders location is somewhat out of town. A destination resort, almost. Another possibility to consider: The Scottsdale Plaza Resort. $125 for rooms with $100 credit in bars and restaurants. Very good, though expensive restaurant called Remingtons. Great piano bar with live piano music (may only be on weekends). marvelous location and nice pools. Older resort, and the age is starting to show. But still, at those prices, very recommendable. |
I love the location of the Boulders and the price mentioned by Tahiti Tams is great. You can hike Pinnacle Peak, go to Greasewood Flat for burgers and beer under the stars, or enjoy a lazy day wandering Cave Creek. In the Pinnacle Peak area you can have nice dinners at Sassi, Michael's at the Citadel, or Mosaic.
Fairmont Princess has an unforgettable spa and you can stay cool in the pool areas under their lavender scented misters. Several topnotch restaurants right on their premises. |
What about Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley ?
|
If there is anyway you can fit in an overnight in Sedona, DO IT! Anywhere will work - but Sedona/ Red Rock country is amazing.

there are all sorts of summer specials at the hotels in the Phoenix area, especially for the weekends

I just got a promo from the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass and Resort (our favorite in Phoenix, close to the airport and Chandler, not in Scottsdale). $169 a night and that gives you two drinks on arrival, a $50 food and beverage credit. Or you can get $149 rate without the extras. They have a wonderful spa, golfing, equestrian Center, amazing views of the mountains from the pool. Not as many kids there as most of the Scottsdale resorts. Very Native American thememing and two great restaurants (and a Starbucks in the lobby). Love that place. THey also have a weekend package and a AAA rate deal this summer.
Thier summer promos are at: www.whpsummer.com The hotel website is: http://www.wildhorsepassresort.com/ |
Actually I see that they have a new restaurant at the golf club there, so make that 3 restaurants.
I think we will book a long weekend there while both my kids are away at summer camps at same time at end of June. It is a very peaceful place, lots to do if you want to, but if you just want to hang out and walk the grounds and swim, it is also nice. Close to South Mountain Park for hiking. |
