Place to stay in New Orleans
 

I am planning a trip to New Orleans in July. I have 4 children 14, 10, 8, 6 and do not know which place is a good place to stay.

Do you have a price range, location desires, etc. ? I always say the Monteleone first but it is hard to give suggestions w/such sparse information.

If a pool isn't important to you, we stayed in a timeshare in the French Quarter several years ago and it was absolutely enormous with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine and dryer, and either two or three bedrooms - I can't remember which.

If you'd rather stay in a hotel, I think the Hilton, which is on the edge of the French Quarter and next to the acquarium and I-Max theater, is a great choice for a family. It's a huge hotel with several restaurants and probably would provide everything you're looking for.

Our children are grown now, but years ago there was easy access to the zoo from that area, too...maybe by boat or trolley.

I think a suite hotel would serve the needs of your family very well since you'd get extra space and get kitchen facilities. I know there are several in the NO area--you should look on Tripadvisor.com for more hotel information and good reviews.

My family of 3 stayed at the Homewood Suites (901 Poydras) in the Central Business District last summer. It was only for 1 night, but I could easily see staying there for multiple nights. We had a 1 bedroom suite, which provided us with a bedroom and bathroom separate from the living room/kitchen. It was wonderful having all that space. The hotel also has free breakfasts and I believe they have free light dinners during the weeknights.

It is a little distance from the French Quarter but depending on the weather, it would be a fairly easy walk or you could ride the street cars. We actually drove our car over to the FQ and parked behind the Jax Brewery area--it was a Sunday night in the summer so finding parking was not hard. One other thing about this area is that there aren't a lot of restaurant choices in the evenings and weekends. It's a really nice, clean hotel, though, with a friendly staff and you get a good value for your money.

I don't see anyone post message regarding 4th of July in New Orleans. Is there any good place to see fireworks?

I too would stay in the FQ instead of the CBD for the convinience. I've stayed at the Hilton before, and although it is a nice hotel, it is a few blocks from the FQ and then a few more blocks from the really interesting parts of the FQ.
