Place to stay between Manistique, Michigan and Milwaukee

We'll be staying in Manistique, Michigan for an evening and then traveling on to Milwaukee. But we have two travel days to get to Milwaukee. Is there a place along the way that would be a good area to stay for the evening? Any suggestions of "must sees" along the travel down through Wisconsin? Thanks

You might want to jog north from Green Bay and up to the Door County peninsula (approx a 1.5 hour drive). You should be able to do a search here and find past posts on what makes DC worthwhile. From DC, you are about 3.5 hours to Milwaukee.

You might want to check out Kohler Wisconsin. Very nice resort there.
Also Cedarburg is nice and quaint.

We're going to be driving quite a bit the day before, so I'm not sure that we're going to feel like driving 2 hours both ways out of the way to get to Door County. So the idea of Cedarburg or Kohler are looking appealing. Which one has more of a relaxed lakefront town for a casual evening? We're just looking for someplace where we can stretch our legs that afternoon for a walk and a relaxed dinner. Nothing fancy.

Would there be any place in the Green Bay area that would offer that type of atmosphere?

How many are there? Are there just the two of you, or do you have your kids with you?
My sister lives in Green Bay, so here's what I know.

If it's just the two of you there's a really cool place in Green Bay called St. Brendan's Inn. It's a Celtic themed hotel with really cool rooms.
There is Bay Beach in Green Bay

Oops, did't mean to hit return.
Bay Beach is subsidised. The rides used to be 10¢ a piece. It may all of 25¢ a ride now.
There is a railroad museum that is quite good.
And Heritage Hill park is also in the area.
If you don't want to drive too far, Green Bay is probably a nice stopping point.
There are some Embassy Suites and related hotels if you have a crowd.

I would vote for Cedarburg as the next stop. It's not even an hour north of Milwaukee but it's a really cool laid back community. There is a main street to walk down and have a drink or an ice cream.
We haven't been there in a while, but we'll probably make it up there this fall.

Manitowoc might fit the bill. It has a nice lakefront, a county fair, a maritime museum. See

Take a look at www.lhinn.com While we've never stayed here, we have enjoyed lunch in their restaurant. This place is in Two Rivers. It's right on the lake and has a gorgeous view. And it wouldn't be out of your way.

If you have kids there is a new hotel in Sheyboygan called Blue Harbor. Although it is right on the lake, It has a big water park. We stayed overnight after a party for my sister.
They also have condo type units if you have you kids with.
I thought it was pretty cool.
