Pittsburgh Strip District
The Strip was mentioned on a discussion about the Pittsburgh Steelers, and for those of you thinking, "Sounds dirty to me...," I thought I'd post these links. Some of the highlights mentioned in the links below include the Mung Bean cakes (one of my favorites!), and the Primanti Brothers sandwiches, which are made with thick bread, french fries and coleslaw (not the cream kind - more of a vinegar base). Supposedly they were made this way so the Pittsburgh workers of years past could have a hand-held complete meal. Other favorites are the supermarkets - Chinese and Mexican to name two, and the smaller stores - Korean, Middle Eastern, biscotti to die for, etc. Lucky me - I'll be there on Saturday!

thanks for posting. we were in Pittsburgh briefly last summer, but were unable to get to the Strip on Saturday. I might be there again this spring on a weekend, so these links are very helpful.

btw, i wanted to say that I really liked Pittsburgh.

skatedancer - Saturday mornings are the best time to go to the Strip. Weekdays are okay, but with none of the liveliness of Saturday. I love seeing the street vendors, musicians, and smelling the great scents coming from the different shops! I hope you get to return this spring.

Stayed in the Strip district on a Sunday after a football game, and it was very quitt. Many restaurants were closed on Sunday night. I was a little disappointed considering that's supposed to be "the place" in Pittsburgh.
Otherwise it was a neat neighborhood, and easy to walk across the river. |
Meant to say "quiet"....Sorry for the tpyo....

sg92 - That doesn't surprise me that a Sunday morning would be quiet. Once the clubs close at night and without the produce and supermarkets open, I imagine that place is pretty dead.
As I mentioned before - the best time is Saturday morning starting about 9 a.m. |
