Pittsburgh Help

We're headed up to Pittsburgh this weekend for the Pirates - Cubs series. and we'll be staying across from the Igloo. Is it possible to walk from this location to PNC Park or is it better to cab it? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a pre and/or post-game spot for a few drinks? Lastly, any nearby breakfast recommendations would be appreciated.

They used to close the Roberto Clemente Bridge (6th street) to car traffic on game days, so people could walk to the ballpark from the downtown area. I don't know if they still do.

I don't know how easy to get there from your hotel, though ... which side of the Igloo?

You could go to Station Square for pre-game drinks, and then take the river boat to the ballpark. Boats leave every 15 minutes, starting 2 hours before game time, something like that.

You could walk, but it will be a bit (about 20 minutes). Coming back, though, I would take a cab (which won't be easy to get - you'll have to call for one) or bus, since it will be mostly uphill.

I'll be at the Marriott which I believe is on the west side of the igloo. Where is station square? Is that by the ballpark?

Station Sq is on the So bank of the Mon River.

We took the boat from the Shearton to the old 3 Rivers Stadium.
Take the Incline up to the top for a great view of The Pitt.

Station square is on the south side of the Monongohela -- PNC Park is on the north side of the Allegheny. Your hotel is in the little pointy part in between, so you are going to have to cross water to get there somehow.

You can walk to PNC from the hotel, but it is not especially close or convenient. Or you can take the subway (Pgh has the world's smallest subway system) to Station Square, and then the shuttle boat to PNC.

Staton Square is a former grand central train terminal turned into an upscale mall, with some very nice eateries. Good place to get a drink or a bite to eat.

If it came down to the subway (the T), you could also ride to Gateway center, then walk 2 blocks, then walk across the Roberto Clemente bridge to the Stadium. Station Square can get hectic.

I just watched the Cubs/Pirates games over the weekend.
Still a beautiful city! :-X

PNC Park is still my favorite stadium out of all the ones I have been to - have 12 left. Hope you enjoyed it.

Sorry...I watched it about 2500 miles away on WGN.

Haven't been back to The Pitt or "my island" in about 10 yrs.
BUT...it is soooo on my to do list!

I'd try for a Sept so I could see a Pirates and Steelers game.
Go Pens!
