Pittsburgh for the Playoffs.....
 

We'll be in Pittsburgh for the NFL Playoff game.....any recommendations for Museums/galleries & restaurants???

I live 16 miles west of Pittsburgh but have lived in the U of Pgh area (Squirrel Hill). I'd suggest the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and Arts in Oakland (nice dinosaur, insect and fossil collections, along with a huge variety of gems on display. In addition to this there is usually a special display that runs for 1-2 months. You may also want to visit the Buhl Planatarium which is a botany place which isn't far from the Carnegie (across a small walkable bridge). If you are using public transportation all 61A,61B,61C go to the museum from downtown Pittsburgh from Fifth Avenue and parking is right next to the museums if you have an automobile. The Carnegie Library is connected to the arts and natural history building. If you want to eat near the museum go to Craig Street where there is Union Grill (nice little bar and sandwiches platters are great) and if you like Indian food there will probably be a buffet, even on weekends, at the Star of India which is across the street from the Union Grill.

Across from Heinz Field is the Carnegie Science Center. If you want to stay around Heinz Field there are some restaurants still open at PNC Park off season. If you want more variety of restaurants I'd highly suggest Station Square which has the subway system stop to this place. First, you'll have to make your way over to downtown Pittsburgh to get the subway if you opt for Station Square.

just a little weather heads up...right now it is snowing to beat the band...and looks like more is headed here for the weekend...also cold weather..can be expected for this time of the wear..do a Pittsburgh search here...are you driving?...where are you staying?..give an idea how long you have..

I recommend you root for Pittsburgh if you don't want to be disapointed. Sorry, I'm a Miami Ohio alum and gotta root for my boy Ben. My family is originally from Boston and my Patriot's fan parents are horrified I'll be rooting against them. Have a great time - I'm jealous!!

Bill Cowher can't carry Belichick's clipboard when it comes to X's and O's. This will not be a match. "Big Ben" will be so awful he will make Peyton Manning look like Unitus.

Sorry, ahhnold, I won't. My disapointment for the season came and went w/my Bengals' performance as it does every year (though I remain confident as always for future). I'm rooting for Pittsburgh but I've never been a Steelers fan. I'll root for the winner of the AFC game in the SuperBowl regardless.

Never underestimate the current world champions! Look what happened to Indianapolis.

We are staying at the Omni. Driving back on Tuesday.
So it's just a short stay!

The Omni is nice & is in a good location for walking downtown. Try to get across the river and go up the Incline for a great view. I was in Pittsburgh in December and had some good information from this board on where to eat.
Now that the Packers are out-GO STEELERS!

we are supposed to get really bad weather Friday into Saturday...maybe up to 10 inches of snow,depending on the track..just wanted to get you to keep an eye on things..hotel is a good choice...my fingers are crossed for my boys....and will be a nervous wreck...GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!......

10" of snow in Pittsburgh is a disaster. Being raised in the snow queen of Buffalo, followed by college in even snowier Oswego, NY, I got a real kick out of a 3-4" snowstorm in Pittsburgh my first year living there-we were taking a bus from downtown to the University (Of Pittsburgh) area and the bus literally stopped and everyone got out and walked because the bus couldn't make it through the snow.

The carnegie Musuem and the Science musuem are terrific. The Carnegie also has an art collection. If you like food, go to the Strpi district, which is not far from your hotel-a healthy walk. It was originally food wholesalers, but its really a fun marketplace now. The University of Pittsburgh's original main builiding is a skyscraper (the Tower ofLearning I believe it's called)and it has 2 floors of international rooms of typical classrooms from various parts of the world. Its interesting to see.

My husband is so jealous -- We have a shrine to the Steelers on our dining room table right not complete with terrible towels (yes, more than one)and assorted other Steelers paraphenalia. As a side question, does anyone know when next seasons tickets go on sale? I would love to surprise him with a game.

No one has mentioned the Warhol Museum. He was a Pittsburgh native, but I have it from someone who knew him that he would be turning in his grave if he knew that his museum was actually located there. Now I personally like Pittsburgh so no offense intended.
