Pioneer Inn

Can you provide any details on the Pioneer Inn?
How is the upkeep?
How are the beds?
Would you recommend it? or recommend staying somewhere else?
Is it like a motel 6 or nicer?
The price seems too good to be true $125.

Could you maybe provide a little detail regarding where the Pioneer Inn is?!?!?

It is an old historic building located right in the heart of town, right on the steps of the harbor, next to the world's largest banyan tree, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and galleries. But it is old, located within the historic preservation district. It depends on what kind of accomodations you like.

RJW: Lahaina, Maui.

I stayed there about 10 years ago.
I got up at 4 am to do the Haleakula bike thing.
When I snapped on the bathroom light I noticed my damp toothbrush was covered in baby roaches!
That kinda sums up the place.
...there is no free lunch...

Pioneer Inn was sold and completley renovated just a year or so ago...but all rooms are above the _very_ busy bar/restaurant. If it's peace and quiet you seek, this is not the place for you. But if you want to party in Lahaina town into the wee late hours, you'll love it!

From what I understand, cockroaches are a Hawaii thing that may or may not have much to do with the upkeep of the hotel.

Don't want to sound contentious, but, we've stayed all over the state in accomodations of many levels from modest to luxury. I've never seen a cockroach inside any dwelling we've inhabited, or any restaurant in which I've dined there, though I do not doubt they exist in Hawaii. Did have an ant farm at a home we rented in Hana. Didn't bother us-they were housebroken.

If you want to stay right in Lahaina (and that is a big if) the Lahaina Shores is a much better bet. It is a waterfront condo property and you should be able to get a studio condo there for $125. It is about two blocks south of the Pioneer.

I agree with Rusty, for the same $$ you'll be much better off at Lahaina Shores. We stayed there 5 nights and it was very pleasant. Talked to people who stayed at the Poineer Inn and they said they won't stay there again, noisy and the renovations didn't do much.

hey, if you were a cockroach, would you want to live in hawaii or NYC??
