Pinetree AZ

I am staying at a timeshare resort in Pinetree in mid November for a week with three active ladies in their 60/70’s. Looking for day trip recommendation's and any itinerary ideas. We will have a rental car and Pinetree will be our home base. Please help.

A former resident of AZ, I’ve never heard of Pinetree, nor it seems has google maps. But I want to know, where is it?

Must mean Pinetop?

Try Kinishba Ruins

Petrified Forest National Park

Bay ANY chance do you mean Pinetop Resort?? If so, it is almost 200 miles NE of Phoenix sort of in the middle of nowhere. Globe would probably be the closest place of interest. Maybe a 2 hour drive. Flagstaff is 2.5+ hours.

If that isn't the place -- where are you staying?

was posting the same time as tom_mm (got interupted before submitting). Kinishba Ruins would only be about 45 minutes away . . .

Definitely wouldn't fill a day though

So sorry....it is Pinetop. We are staying at WorldMark Pinetop, 2000 S WorldMark Dr., Pinetop, AZ

Not sure where you are coming from but it may be chilly with snow in November at this altitude, maybe that’s what you are looking for.

I know some quiet gravel roads near the town of White Mountain, on the reservation, if you want wooded mountain scenery where elk sightings are likely, if seeing large game appeals to you.

Be prepared for cool weather as Pinetop is in the mts.
  • Early November: Expect average highs near 59°F and average lows around 35°F.
  • Late November: Temperatures get colder as the month progresses, with average highs dropping to 48°F and lows around 26°F.

The Hopi Cultural Center is on Second Mesa on the Hopi Reservation. It is a little over 2 hours north. Old Oraibi is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the US dating from around 900 AD. Because of its isolation, the village has retained many of its original features. “Today ruins of an old Spanish mission established in 1629 stand in contrast to old stone and newer cinder block houses.” Visitors are welcome but due to their traditional culture, the inhabitants don’t appreciate having themselves or homes being photographed. They do sell collectible arts and crafts including Katsina dolls, baskets, and pottery. Attachment 9526

"We will have a rental car . . . " That you will have a rental car is a given - I can't imagine how you'd ever get there without driving. Unless you plan on long drives there really isn't a lot to see/do except for the ruins and nature activities. Pinetop-Lakeside is a pretty rural town mostly geared to outdoor pursuits. I'd just plan on mostly chilling - especially if there is snow, though Nov. is probably a little early for serious snow. From Wyndham's own website: "The Pinetop area in western Arizona's White Mountains is a refreshing break from the desert heat. At 7,200 feet, nature lovers will have plenty to do — hiking, horseback riding, snowboarding, and ice fishing, for starters. The inviting cabin feel of the resort welcomes your return."

I agree with tom-mn, Petrified Forest is very interesting, about an hour and half away

I disagree with tom-mn. I found Petrified Forest interesting for at most an hour or 2, and I stopped because I was passing by the area. Not worth a 3hr drive (RT) IMO. ymmv.
