Pinehurst & Southern Pines
 

Has anyone been here to tour? Not golf:) Is there any restaurant you would recommend?
Could you list any shops/attractions in the area?

Pinehurst/Southern Pines is a great area! I grew up about 45 minutes from there. Pinehurst is a sleepy little village that has a really great New England feel to it. There you will find several delis/eateries right in the village as well as upscale shopping.

In Southern pines I like the Squire's Pub. It serves traditional English fare such as shepherd's pie, etc.

There are a lot of little galleries around the area if you are into art.

Also, check out Seagrove pottery which is nearby. It is a village of potters who have been around the area for quite some time...there are many potteries here. Don't know if you like pottery, but I love the place!

Pinehurst?SP is a beautiful area...I am sure you will enjoy it!

Thanks rosebloom! What really caught my eye, was your comment about New England Village. I love Vt. & Maine & miss their quaint shops. We just retired to NC from NJ, so I am looking for places to shop & tour. If you have any other places to suggest, please reply. We live between Raleigh & Rocky Mount.

Oh! I forgot to mention the Magnolia Inn, NCPhyl. It is so beautiful and over 100 years old. You would love it if you like fine dining...very quaint.

I have only been there once and it was a wedding reception but it is gorgeous.

If you plan to stay overnight in PH/SP check out the Fresh Market grocery store. It is an upscale grocery that has a great selection of gourmet and unusual foods. I love the place!

A nice area to visit (and live). I was born there and lived in a small town nearby until I was 10, but my favorite is to eat Sunday brunch at the Pinehurst Hotel. (may have been mentioned above). Seagrove is a must.

It is a lovely area to visit--not really a "destination" unless you are golfing. There are a lot of antique shops in the area and I think it is Cramerton (someone check this) whose shops are open only on Sunday. Seagrove is a WHOLE day all by itself. There are over 60 potters in the vicinity--all different types of pottery. It is definitely not a drop in affair. Stop in the town of Seagrove for a map of potters. Two not to be missed places is Ben Owen's pottery and Jugtown.

I'm not a big fan of Pinehurst Resort although I played #2 a couple of years ago and it was tough!

I do think the main dining room is very romantic.

The best gym I found in Pinehurst is the one at the hospital (no lie!).

Mid Pines Resort is my favorite place to stay.
