Look at the website MountEvans.com. The road is 15 miles long. The last 5 miles are closed to your car after Labor Day, but not to your legs and feet. They do not close the lower 10 miles until October. Summit Lake is beautiful as is all of the scenery 360degrees, as far as you can drive. RMNP is fabulous.
It is also enormous. Mt.Evans and its views are beautiful and your drive is shorter because you go straight up. It is closer to Denver. Don't ignore this gem, just because some can't get their facts straight.

So you're suggesting OP fly in from NYC, drive up Mt. Evans to where the road is closed, then hike 10 miles roundtrip to the summit and back. And they're supposed to do this with no acclimating and get back to Aurora in 8-9 hours?

To WhereAreWe: Of course not. I was just clarifying that you can drive up Mt.Evans part of the way through the end of Sept. I had interpreted karma's desire to be to see mountain scenery. Geeez--if the weather is clear even the view from DIA is impressive if you don't live near mountains.
