Medelen - San Diego is a WONDERFUL family location! If you haven't already, sign up for Southwest's DING program. They will email you each day with specials. I have seen San Diego come up frequently from Nashville ($59 each way!) over the last couple of months. Not sure what part of KY you live in but Southwest flies out of Nashville, Louisville & Indy. Would think you should be able to get roundtrip for $200 or less if you keep an eye on fares. Rental cars are very reasonable in San Diego. Instead of hotel rooms, it might be more affordable (and more comfortable) to rent a condo for the week. In addition to having more space, you could cook a little to keep costs down. Peak season doesn't begin til the middle of June for most properties so if you go as soon as school is out that would bring your costs down even more. VRBO.com is a good place to check out condos.
