Hello....I need a Vegas hotel for two nights prior to arriving on Maui...don't want to spend a lot of money on a Vegas hotel and would prefer mid-strip. What would you pick?
Luxor @ $218
Barbary Coast @ $190
Excalibur @ $142
Flamingo @ $260
(all total for two nights: tax not included). THANKS!

In this order...

Flamingo
Barbary Coast (based soley on location)
Luxor
Excalibur

I've stayed at the Flamingo several times and while their rooms are a bit outdated the atmosphere is fun, location is great, buffet is decent, pool is very nice.

Barbary Coast is definately mid-strip, but I haven't stayed there. Luxor is nice. Personally, I would avoid Excalibur. If you can a nice rate at Mandalay Bay right next to Luxor, I would stay there.

Flamingo and Barbary Coast are the only two that one can consider "mid-Strip". Flamingo is much bigger, but Barbary Coast has a little old-school class (and two superb restaurants, Drai's and Michael's). I'd go with Barbary Coast myself, since it prices out lower than Flamingo. Otherwise, I think it's a toss-up.

Excalibur and Luxor are firmly south Strip. I hate Excalibur, so I'd never consider it. Luxor is acceptable, except for its crummy location.

Luxor is the nicest property out of the ones you listed. Get a room in the newer tower.

Of these 4 I agree with Gellers.

But if it were I for 2 nights and if you had more than 3 or 4 weeks until the trip, I would definitely do Hotwire or Priceline and you will do much better than these prices for Strip locations. I always have.
