Based on your requirements, I'd pick:

Maison de Ville
Sonesta
Maison Dupuy

in that order...

My first choice would be Sonesta.

I've stayed at the Royal Sonesta and really enjoyed it, but you need to be sure and get a room overlooking the courtyard/pool rather than Bourbon Street. I think Maison de Ville looks fabulous but I haven't stayed there yet. If I were you, I'd take John's advice...it's always faultless. One more thing...October is VERY busy in New Orleans. I'm surprised you still have these three options available!

Thank you so much for the nice words, Susan! I really think Maison de Ville is wonderful...small, luxurious and comfy. Well-located, too. It meets all of Louis's requirements. It IS expensive, though. I have no problems with either Sonesta (Royal or Chateau) and think Louis would enjoy Sonesta as well. Maison Dupuy is fine, too, but it's not in the same class.

ps - the Bistro at Maison de Ville is always ranked as one of the city's top restaurants, although I've not been there in a couple of years. I believe Susan Spicer (of Bayona fame) started there.
