Photo ops in Annapolis
 

Hi there... will be passing through Annapolis, arriving around 3pm this Saturday with my daughter in tow. She is a photography student and looking to take loads of pictures.
With the limited daylight and limited funds, I am wondering where would be the best places to get good pics.
I have military ID, so I can get in the Naval Academy... just in case there is a good place there.

Any thoughts?

I'm a student in Annapolis, so I can well understand the limited funds :)

The Naval Academy (there are signs from Rt. 50 to take you directly to the visitor's entrance) is a great bet, full of stately, old marble buildings and midshipmen(and women) in uniform.
Though I should point out that any government-issued ID is sufficient to allow visitors in. I've gone in with a driver's license.

The downtown area is full of red brick buildings.... and the docks at the end of Main Street are fabulous.

The thing is, it depends what she wants to take photos of. Tourists? Residents? Midshipmen? Boats?
Annapolis is a fabulously quaint town, and there is a lot to photograph.

I'd be happy to update these VERY general reccomendations if you want more specific things....

Historic Annapolis I found bountiful in photo-op opportunities, all within relatively close walking distance of one another. Here's a brief list of some of my favourite photo memories of Annapolis.

St. John's College
Maryland State Capitol
Middleton Tavern
lots of charming circulars, alleyways and streets
there's one especially lovely street near the tavern where there are a number of heritage homes; don't remember the name but Capital Tea House is there
indeed the Naval Academy
the docks

Please check on-line for details, but Severn House restaurant is across the Severn River facing the Naval Academy. I don't know if the water taxi goes that far.

Lots of shots around the city dock. A water taxi makes its rounds and there is an excursion boat.

The Naval Academy has an awesome tour. I believe you enter the gate at the base of King George Street to find parking near the beginning of the tour. Can anyone confirm?

Also, to all reading this thread, if you are around on October 9, please look at the DC thread for GTG info on that date.

Just re-reading your thread-will you be spending the night? The Academy Tours may end around 3-just not sure.
