Phoenix to Las Vegas Itinerary
My husband and I are planning on flying in to Phoenix in March and following this itinerary. Any thoughts on the pace or the hotels we're considering? We're looking for an active vacation and are hoping to see a lot of the area. Thanks...

Day 1 - Fly in to Phoenix and check into Royal Palms Resort

Day 2 - stay at Royal Palms and explore Camelback Mountain

Day 3 + 4 - drive to Sedona and stay at L'Auberge, visit the Hopi Nation, explore Sedona, and enjoy the resort

Day 5 - drive to the Grand Canyon (really early in the morning) and explore, drive back to Flagstaff and stay at a motel for the evening

Day 6 - drive to Las Vegas with a stop at Hoover Dam, check in to the Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas

Day 7 - explore Las Vegas; maybe take in a show

Day 8 - lounge by the pool; depart for home on the red-eye

Your itinerary sounds good except for the Vegas part.

Most pools aren't open in Las Vegas in March and if you've never been to Las Vegas your time could be better spent seeing all the sights instead of sitting by a hole filled with water.

Have the Hopis moved to near Sedona? I don't know of anyone who considers the Hopi reservation a day trip from Sedona.

MarkY,

I can tell from your post that you must not be from the New England area. Otherwise, you'd know why spending a few hours at the pool would be appealing! LOL! We only have about 2.5 feet of snow here! ; - )
Two thoughts:
Not sure what you had in mind re Hopi Nation...but it's not anywhere near where you are. Personally, if I was staying at l'Auberge (cottages?) I would not leave the area. On the way from Phx you could stop at Montezuma Castle if interested in a cliff dwelling area.
While in Sedona, if you are ative, ie. hikers, drive to Boynton Canyon (enchantment resort area) and can hike a trail; or better yet hike along oak creek near a trail head on upper oak crrek. (need to ask for specifics)
Second thought, I would not want to drive back to Flagstaff; much better off staying late at the Canyon; seeing sunrise or early morning at the canyon and then leave for Las Vegas. Drive back to Flagstaff is about 90 minutes in mostly the wrong direction from Vegas.
