Phoenix/Scottsdale

We are planning a trip to Phoenix/Scottdale in February. I am thinking of staying in Scottsdale as it sounds smaller, more arts/culture/cafes, etc. But, not sure if this would put us too far away from major sites or if I'm somehow wrong in thinking that Phoenix would be a less attractive place to stay. We cannot afford the resorts (looking to spend no more than $150/night). We like arts/restaurants, hiking and cycling.
Any comments/suggestions would be most welcome.

You have the right idea, Scottsdale is certainly a bit more classy and you won't be "too far away from major sites".

Scottsdale. The Hilton there is very nice. On my list with the most comfortable bed ever.
