Phoenix-January - Weather?What to pack?

Attending a conference in January - Phoenix. Would love to visit Sedona and the Grand Canyon - will be staying a week, and leaving from Phoenix. How far travel time to each, and where to affordably & safely stay?
Any suggestions would be more than helpful. First time to AZ.

PHX January weather varies from daytime highs 60-72, lows in 30's-40's. It's cool, so plan to take some reasonably warm clothing, esp for night time. Occasionally very pleasant Jan days, but not the rule. Very cool up north around Sedona. Teens/20's at night. Often snows. Very beautiful and worth the trip. A little over 2 hours to Sedona, 3+ to Grand Canyon.
Location of your conference in PHX should guide your hotel choice, as travel time in rush hour can really add up.

I gotta jump in on this one...I used to live in Phoenix. The last time I was there was in January of 1996. I wore Teva sandals the whole week I was there, as the temperature went up to 69 every day. If you're going up north, remember that the northern part of the state is a haven for skiers. I would have a coat in Sedona in January; the temps could be more than 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix.

Pam,
I'm glad you're taking this opportunity to check out some of the most beautiful cities in our country. Your best bet is to dress in layers. Phoenix will be around 70 as a high but it's cool in the morning and evening. Sedona will probably be in the 50's/60's depending on your luck and Grand Canyon 40's/50's. I highly recommend the Best Western just outside the Grand Canyon (about a 7 minute drive). The rooms are huge and very well appointed. It will take about 2 hours to get to Sedona from Phoenix and another 2 hours from Sedona to the Grand Canyon - one of the most beautiful drives you'll take. Pay attention to the curves though!
