Phoenix car rental
I've heard that in Phoenix you shouldn't rent a car at the airport because the prices are very high. We are staying at the Scottsdale Camelback Resort. Does anyone know if there are any car rental places near there, or is there somewhere close to the airport where we should rent the car?

Call the resort and ask if they have rental agencies nearby, or some that they recommend.
Also, check on the rates from airport, don't just assume they will be very high because that's what you've heard. There are times when it isn't a bad deal to rent from there, especially for short stays. |
Your best bet is to check out Kayak.com, which allows to do a rental car search for places NOT at the airport. You can specify that you want a rental office within your choice of distance from the center of Scottsdale, or ONLY offices within the city limits of that city. Since Kayak gives you the address of the office, you can find the exact location on any mapping software.
Similarly, with Hotwire, you can specify that you want ONLY rental offices within a certain distance from the center of Scottsdale. Although you won't know the EXACT address (they keep the company name hidden until you pay the non-refundable charge), you can at least know the office is pretty close. |
Have you tried Priceline (name your own price)? We paid $15/day in San Diego a couple of weeks ago although in Phoenix it is all the taxes that really add up.

We always rent from the airport. Our last rate was $175 for 8 days. My husband rents a lot of cars and find the rental rates at Sky Harbor to be among some of the cheapest.
How do you plan on getting from the airport to Camelback? (which is in Paradise Valley, not Scottsdale). |
I always use carrentals.com and just checked rates for later this week for my trip and they start at $18/day for my dates...not as cheap as some other airports but not expensive enough to worry too much...
