PHL to SEA
Hello everyone.
I need your help. My husband needs to travel from Philadelphia to Seattle next week for 1 day. I remember there were last minute deals and I am unable to find anything like that anymore. I need to find cheapest fligh nonstop because of his back condition. Maybe 1 stop if price difference makes sense. Which sites are you using nowadays? Please, advise. Thanks |
I always start with Kayak. Note, however, that Southwest Airlines may be the best place to start.
Don't count on anything good this late on a one-day flight; last minute deals don't last very long anymore. |
The only NS service I know of between PHL and SEA is on Alaska Airlines so don't bother with anybody else for that option.

US Airways/American is in the middle of a major schedule revision this week, so the usual US nonstop from PHL to SEA only operates on a couple of days next week, while the nonstop from SEA to PHL is still daily. Otherwise, Alaska is your only other nonstop option.
Book through the airlines regardless. |
Thanks you akk but what it means
Book through the airlines regardless ??? |
$492 one stop vs $1332 nuts!Isnt it?

Book through the airlines regardless ??? Book online at the airline's website rather than through a third party such as Expedia. |

Superstition masquerading as good advice. There is no reason to avoid booking through a reputable third party agent, especially if the price and/or itinerary are better. |

Thanks for the compliment, but in this case I wouldn't go with OTAs. This week is when US Airways disappears from the GDSs that feed the OTAs, and bookings on AA/US metal are rather glitchy pending the merger of the US and AA reservation systems on October 17. Ordinarily I wouldn't worry about using OTAs but given the OP's timing and route, this week I'd go with the airline. |
That PHL-SEA on about to pass into history USAirways doesn't even show UP on kayak although technically you can still book it on the USAiways site

I doubt it; I ride it pretty regularly and loads are always very good (2x daily most of the year.) I think this is just a pretty quiet time of year and as I said AA and US are starting to merge fleets, so there's going to be a lot of tinkering with the equipment, timing, etc. as they do. I don't think AA is going to cede the nonstop market to AS' one daily turn. |
I don't understand how all these arcane details make Travelocity an unreliable source for airline tickets.

Most of the time it's not. But this week (and probably for some weeks to come) bookings on AA might be more difficult on OTAs than on AA.com. Might not, but why risk it? BTW Travelocity was bought by Expedia in January. |
You get the last word--again.

So people what I am supposed to do to get at least medium price for 1 day travel?

Search, search, search online. Remember to check Southwest because they don't work with any third parties. Travelocity and Expedia will offer the same results; Kayak is more expansive; I have alway checked Orbitz, too, but never personally found anything useful there; I have recently been using Hipmunk and it looks promising.
If you identify a couple of itineraries you like, check the airlines' websites to see if they are cheaper there. You can also Google to find recent articles about searching for cheap airfares--the New York Times runs an article like that once or twice a year. Consider using a travel agent, if you can find one. They are not magicians, but can sometimes find a fare you couldn't find online on your own. |
