philly traffic?

Does anyone have a sense of how bad the traffic is coming in to Philly from the west on I-76 (King of Prussia area) at ~ 9am on a Friday? Maqquest puts me at 24 minutes to go 19.5 miles and I need to at a 10 am meeting.

thanks.

9am is still the rush hour, but fortunately you are heading west at that time. It PROBABLY won't be as bad as heading east (inbound) from there. HOWEVER, one accident could make it a nightmare on any of the highways.

Check out

during that time to get an idea of what it's like. 1060 AM has traffic reports every ten minutes, so that would be your best bet to listen to.

Also, the local Philly Fox station (it's cable channel 9 on my system, but who knows what it might be on yours) has local traffic reports from 5am to 9am. If you wake up early, watch that station AND listen to KYW 1060 AM, you should know what problems are developing where you're thinking of driving. If trouble occurs, you'll be able to give yourself extra time.

If it make you feel any better, on my first visit to Philly I was stuck on I-76 for two hours when after trucks collided. It won't be worse for you, I hope!

I think PaulRabe misread your post.

As I understand it, you're heading EAST to Philly, not west. So, in fact, you'lll probably be in the teeth of the traffic @ 9 a.m.

I'd be surprised if the door-to-door time is less than a half hour. Figure on an hour, and keep your cell phone handy to call people and tell them if you're stuck on the Schuylkill. If they're local, they'll understand.

If you absolutely can't be late, leave @ 8:30 and have coffee if you get there early.

Leave an hour minimum to drive. Please also consider an AMTRAK train. They run frequently, cost $4.50 1W and are much more reliable than you would think. Lots of train station choices from the KofP area.

sorry, I meant to say a SEPTA, regional train.

76 to/from the city is the worst traffic problem Philly has. Give yourself at least an hour or take SEPTA.

thanks for all the info. Sounds like SEPTA would be the way to go. Do you know if you are allowed to park overnight at the train station? I will be staying overnight in Philly at a conference and could leave my car in King of Prussia if necessary.
