Philly Hotel to Hospital Locations
 

My mom and I may be traveling to Philly at the end of this month so she can have treatments at Fox Chase. She'll be an outpatient most likely so we'd like to make it a mini trip and stay someplace nice. If I bid for a 4 star hotel downtown how far is this from Fox Chase? Also does anyone know what the area that Fox Chase is in is referred to?<BR><BR>Thanks!

Wendy,<BR>Sorry I can't help you with your specific questions but I did find a website for Fox Chase (www.fccc.edu).<BR>Lots of information there, including maps and driving directions from central Philadelphia and many other locations. <BR><BR>If you don't find the details you need, I'm sure a phone call there would yield some helpful advice. You'll have to do some research. I don't know which hotels Priceline lists as 4 star, but the hotels are spread out all over center city. Don't forget w/Priceline you can wind up with any 4 star hotel, you can't just bid on one particular one. However center city is at least half an hour from Fox Chase which is in the northeast.

Wendy, if you go to www.biddingfortravel.com and scroll way down to the hotel section, you can find out which 4* hotels are located in the area where you want to stay. You can find out where Fox Chase is by plugging the address into mapquest.com or google.com. Let me know if you need help with any of this.

Wendy, first I want to offer my support to you and your family--as a Philly native and cancer survivor, I can tell you that you've picked a great place for her treatment with compassionate doctors and an incredibly focused, specialized staff. Regarding your get-a-way, Fox Chase is 30-45 minutes from downtown Philly. You're in northeast Philadelphia. However, there is a great commuter train that goes right from Fox Chase into downtown Philly (we call it "center city") thus making it very convenient. I would also suggest looking at a Bucks County, PA bed and breakfast (near New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ)--there are lots of beautiful ones, and it's actually closer to Fox Chase than Center City and could be more restful and relaxing for you both, particularly in the beautiful fall. Wendy, I used to live near Fox Chase. It's a wonderful hospital and a good area. However, there are no hotels very close by.<BR>I think your best bet would be to stay at a hotel or motel that has easy in and out parking. If you stay downtown, there will be a fee for parking, and it will be a nuisance.<BR>There are some places on City Ave. - an Adam's Mark, for one - that would be only a fifteen minutes drive to Fox Chase, but it's not very fancy.<BR>There's a brand new Hyatt on the edge of downtown along the Delaware river that has good rates; it would be classy, yet have easy parking. It would be easy to sightsee if you are staying there; you are near public transportation.<BR>There is a nice restaurant near the Cancer Center called Moonstruck; it's about two minutes away.<BR>Feel free to email me if you need any other help, driving directions, etc.<BR><BR>Sylvia<BR>

If it's not too late, definitely look into the Chestnut Hill Hotel (www.chestnuthillhotel.com). There are plenty of things to do in Chestnut Hill and it's not as long a drive to Fox Chase--I used to take evening classes there. Chestnut Hill is among the best and prettiest neighborhoods in the Philadelphia area and its main street, aka upper Germantown Avenue, is lined with cafes, restaurants and shops.

So we have my mom's appt. and they have suggested us stay at the Doubletree on Roosevelt- offers Fox Chase rates and a shuttle. <BR><BR>Is this an ok hotel? Is is still close to the commuter train? Any info is appreciated. Thanks again.<BR><BR>Wendy

Will you have a rental car? I suppose if they are recommending it the price is a fair price. As cs says it is located in the Northeast. Not exactly the city but if you have a car it should not be a problem getting around. Best of luck to you. Do try and visit beautiful Bucks County. Very relaxing and pretty this time of year. Everyone is so helpful!!<BR><BR>So we are going to stay at the Doubletree with the shuttle service while she has some testing done. Then the next day we are going to move to a 4 star downtown (I'm in the process of bidding) so we can explore the historic district). I don't think we'll rent a car since we'll be moving locations, probably just cab it.

We got the Westin downtown for Friday night for $75 on Priceline (gotta love that site!).<BR><BR>Any recommendations for a good dinner Friday night are appreciated. We love good food, would like to check out one of the "hot" restaurants. Any well know chef's in the area?

The westin is only a 2 block walk from Philly's finest restaurants. Pasion is a great choice and has been rated by Food and Wine Magazine as one of the country's top. It is Nuevo Latino. Striped Bass is an incredible seafood restaurant. Vetri is also rated as a top fine Italian. Other great Places to look into would be: Le Bec Fin, Susanna Foo, Brasserie Perrier, Alma de Cuba and Avenue B- all with walking of the Westin.

Does anyone have a guess on how much the cab ride from Fox Chase to the downtown Westin might be for us? We'll me heading there mid morning.
