Phillips Collection escapes fire damage
Thankfully it appears the Phillips Collection dodged a bullet yesterday with a serious fire. All artwork is fine...

I was going to go there yesterday after work to see the White paintings. I am glad nothing was damaged
|
Wow, thanks for letting us know. One of my favorite sites/sights in DC and a few incredible gems of artwork. So glad it's okay. If they learn something valuable from how the fire started, it will be a lucky lesson.

Renoir's Boathouse painting (Luncheon on the Boating Party)is in that collection! I love that painting. So glad the art escaped damage.

emd3, I KNOW! I really flipped out when I saw the headline, as I just saw Luncheon on the Boating Party last year and fell in love with it.
This comes on the heels of the fire in Venice next to Santa Maria della Salute that ended up with damaged to the Titian on the ceiling! (click my name, I posted that the other day with a link). |
I love to sit in that small room when there isn't anyone else there and just stare at the Boating Party.

Heads should roll on that one, completely unacceptable that workers start a fire.

The Phillips reopened most of its galleries on Saturday, September 4, according to an email to members, but the mansion will remain closed for repairs. The Boating Party and the Rothko Room are in the newer sections, so they are on view.
