Philadelphia Mass Transit
 

I am going to be in Philadelphia for a weekend this spring. I was going to stay at The Rittenhouse but The Four Seasons has extended their stay 2 nights, 3rd night free promo. It's very tempting. My only concern is I won't have a car and I'm told the The Fours Seasons isn't as centrally located as some of the other City Center hotels. I know the hotel has a town car which I might use to get to and from the concert hall at night but would prefer to get around on my own during the day. How's mass transit? Is there a bus route from Logan Circle that would take me say to City Hall or Rittenhouse Square. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Google Transit doesn't yet cover SEPTA - so you have to use the SEPTA website ( www.septa.org ) to check out transit options for your hotel. First figure out where the Four Seasons is (address, plot on Google Maps), then use that as a reference on SEPTA.org - I think you can type in an address or point to point and see what buses/trains cover it.

But surely there are SEPTA buses that cover the area. I did find it on a map. Looks to be about four blocks from Suburban Station (where you'd pick up lots of commuter trains). I don't remember how walkable the part of town is - probably not as much as Rittenhouse Square.

Looks like you can take Bus #32. You can get on at Broad/Locust, and get off at JFK/18th Street.

You are in luck! I'd definitely take advantage of the promo.
You will be walking distance to City Hall, and personally I've also walked from there to Rittenhouse Square many times, but if you're not as much of a walker, there are buses that are just fine or a cab ride would probably only be a few dollars (tho I'm not as familiar with cab costs as walking routes, buses, trolleys and trains!). You can plan out any bus trip by going to Septa.com, clicking on "plan my trip" and putting in your beginning and ending destinations.

Also know that right across Logan Circle at that time of year, you can hop on our purple Philly Phlash bus for $2 (or for $5/day get a pass that allows you to hop on and off as many times as you'd like) if you'd like to go to either the Art Museum (also an easy walk from where you are, if you like to walk) or down to the historical area where Independence Hall, etc. are.

Just want to say in response to the question of how walkable that part of town is...it's very walkable. You will see many people out at that time of year walking from the Art Museum to the Franklin Institute or the Rodin Museum or City Hall...

You'll have to cross the parkway and walk south on one of the numbered streets to go to where the streets are more lined with shops, restaurants, etc. And imho it doesn't get really interesting in that regard around there, until you get south of JFK Boulevard. But that's close! And I'm sure the concierge at your hotel will be able to guide you knowledgeably.

I would not walk this at night though. Walking this during the day is perfectly fine, but that area is pretty quite at night.

Re the Phlash Bus, it's a great way to get around the city. <u>However</u>, it only runs part of the year. I don't think it's running yet, so be sure to check this website before your trip to see if it's an option:

It'll be very difficult to get a cab from Kimmel Center after a concert, as many others have the same idea as you.

Agreed...but I think op said she'd be there in spring...and also that she'll use the hotel transportation for the nighttime concert. That's a good decision, because I agree that the walk is more of one to do by day, and also that getting a cab can take a while.

Thanks everyone! I'm not so sure this is going to work. I know this is a great deal but a little too out of the way for me. I'd like to be able to walk right out the door to food and shops. I'm also a bit worried about getting back from the concert hall at night. I'd be able to use The Four Seasons car going but would have to cab it back. It sounds like cabs would be hard to get and expensive.
