Philadelphia Hotels advice please
 

Going to Philadelphia in October for family wedding and would like advice re good hotels. Would prefer top end of the market as it is not often we get away without teenagers. Wedding is in N.E Philadelphia, but I suspect that we would prefer to stay nearer the centre. Have looked at 4 Seasons, Loews and Rittenhouse . You have all been so helpful in the past. Any comments??

The Four Seasons in Philadelphia is one of my favorites!

I prefer the location of Rittenhouse hotel over Four Seasons.

Have you also considered the Sofitel or the Ritz Carlton?

The Sheraton Rittenhouse Square, an environmentally smart hotel, is fabulous. (18th St. and Locust). Also the restaurant next door (Devon) is wonderful.

The Sheraton no longer exists. It has been gone for about 3 years. It is now condos.

The 4 Seasons is lovely and has a great formal restaurant.

Loews is nothing to write home about in my opinion.

Ritz - beautiful but the room we stayed in last year had very thin walls and we could hear the people next door and in the doorway. Eric Lipert the chef from New York just opened a new restaurant in the hotel.

I vote for the Rittenhouse...great hotel and the best location.

We are big walkers and we wallk from Ritttenhouse down to the Penn Landing up to the Art Museum, etc. Philly does have one a bus/shuttle called the philly flash that I think you can jump on and off.

Thank you all. After looking at the options I think the Rittenhouse looks like a good option. I assume that this is not the same as Rittenhouse 1751 which also comes up? Is this a boutique B/B?

You are correct that the Rittenhouse Hotel, on Rittenhouse Square, is not the same as the Rittenhouse 1715 B&B, 2 different places.I stayed at the Rittenhouse Hotel last year and liked it very much. The location is great and lots of good place to eat within walking distance.

The Sofitel looked interesting also. I haven't stayed there, but I think it's worth checking out.

We stayed at the Rittenhouse 1715 last year on a quick trip to the King Tut exhibit - it used to be the Rittenhouse Square B&B but is now billing itself as a boutique hotel, with 23 rooms on several floors of at least two connected rowhouses. They were a Select Registry Inn until this year, which is why we stayed there. It's a European-style small hotel, not staffed by owner/innkeepers, with a decent continental breakfast in the morning and nice hotel-style amenities - modern-ish rooms, flat-screen tvs, nice toiletries. It's got a great location; some of the front rooms get street noise so you might inquire if you are sensitive to that.
