philadelphia cc to JFK

Hi,

My husband and I are travelling on Christmas Day to catch an evening flight from JFK. We will have heavy bags. We are trying to decide how to travel.

Amtrak and LIRR - we don't need to worry about traffic. can red cap transfer us from Amtrak to LIRR or if not how far can they take us in that direction when we arrive at Penn station?

Rent car - my husband likes this idea. Can we get easy pass from the rental company for tolls?

Dave's Best - I have done this before, but in both directions we drove all over the place picking people up and dropping them off, but they did get me there just when they said they would.

What do you think are pros and cons with heavy bags?

Thanks so much,

Bonnie

Christmas day = no traffic
Heavy bags = any public transportation is a pain.

If you can get a reasonable deal on a rental car that's what I would do. It's less than 2hrs drive. QED.

An easy pass comes in handy when there are lines at tolls - on the Turnpike and bridges. You really don't need one for this trip.

The only wild card is the weather.

For that distance with heavy bags the only ting that makes sense to me is rental car.

Amtrak does have people to help with luggage - the LIRR doesn;t. So you have to drag your luggage through the station and down a couple flights of stairs with limited time. (Tracks are typically announced 10 minutes in advance.)

One option you didn't mention is a private car service. No personal experience, but might be interesting to compare price of rental car with something like http://www.phillycarservice.com/index.php
