Phila dinner with son

We are meeting our son in Phila. tomorrow night for dinner and would welcome suggestions. ( lives near the Manayunk area) Nothing too fancy or too pricey, as he is not into that kind of dining. Just good food - but no cheese steaks,as he has lots of them. Thanks for your help.

Not sure how old your son is but - http://www.manayunkbrewery.com/ - http://madrivermanayunk.com/menus.asp
I believe there are several more Pubs in that area as well. Why not ask him ??

He is 21, new to the area, and not really familiar with any place yet.

Where did you go?
I will be in Philadelphia for 2 nights next week. I have not been there for 17 years so not familiar with where to go. I remember the "Irish Pub" (on Chestnut?) is that still open.

Did you go to Manayunk? I remember that place was cool too.

To Irelandfan: Try- Good Dog Bar and Restaurant at 224 S. 15th Street. I just read a really good review of it. Supposed to be local brews and "Sophisticated Comfort Food". Pricing looks reasonable, too. Also was voted best Blue Cheese Burger in Philly.

What kind of food are you looking for irelandfan? We'll be up there in a couple of weeks with our 20 and 21 year olds and I found reservations at a lot of the more well-known restaurants to be very hard to come by. I did find one at Fork.

Monks has a great reputation but doesn't take reservations and can very hard to get into on weekends.

Look at Philly Mag's listing to give you some ideas:

McGillin's is probably the best known of the Irish pubs; it's on Drury Street, which is right off of Chestnut. http://www.mcgillins.com/

There's just a plethora of places, so let us know what your preferences/prices are and I'm sure we'll come up with something! :)

Whatever you do, do not eat at the Manayunk Brew Pub or Mad River, those are 2 large bars which have a small menu but not the best food. If you are looking to eat in Manayunk, go to Manayunk.com and look over a few places on that site. If you desire to head into the city, you can't go wrong following Philly Mag's suggestions.

McGillins is a great time too.
