Pgh dinner near Incline
Is there a good, local place to eat that I can get to by going up the Monongahela Incline? By reading I've discovered I can take the T from downtown to Station Square.It looks like the Mon Incline is easy to get to from Station Square.I'd like to see the city at night, then go eat not-too-expensive food.Possible? Thanks.

Good question. We drove to the foot of the Duquesne Incline. That has a selection of restaurants at the top: http://pittsburgh.about.com/od/resta...gton/index.htm . It looks like it's a half-mile or so from Station Square. And I'm not sure it can be easily accessed on foot. Gorgeous views, though.

bookhall - I was just in Pittsburgh for parents weekend. We wanted to eat inexpensively with great views. After researching all of the different restaurants from the top of Mt. Washington I decided on the Grandview Saloon (grandviewsaloon.com). The views were tremendous, the food was decent and inexpensive - sandwiches, salads, entree's. They have a deck outside that in the nice weather must be awesome to look down at the city. It is right next door to the incline. As a matter of fact there was a wait at the restaurant so we did the incline and then came back and our table was ready. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from, but I think for the price and what we were looking for it was a good choice.

Eileen - most of the restaurants atop Mt. Washington are pricey, this is because of the view. There may be one or two restaurant/bars or a deli at the top that you can dine at inexpensively, I think Grandview Saloon is one of them. Here is a compiled list of some area restaurants, but strangely the only one included from Mt. Washington is the Grandview.

park at the bottom of the incline at the end of Station Square by the ampitheater and ride the Duquesne incline up...love the Grandview..probably the most reasonable...you could park in the lot on top of Mt Washington and ride down and back up..last time the price was about $4 to park on the top lot..you'd have to walk from the Mon incline or Station SQ to get the Duq. incline...wouldn't want to walk in the cold..there are a couple rests. back a few streets from Grandview Ave but no view only from the overlook there...the 2 inclines have websites..last time I rode @ night you had to have correct change..you could ride the incline @ Station Sq up and down and eat at the Wine Cellar or one of the rests. @ Station SQ...

Thank you!! 15 of us were at a conference last week. We walked across the bridge to Station Square, then continued on to the Duquesne Incline. Ate at the Grandview Saloon. Food was great, view was amazing. Everyone really enjoyed the long walk, too. The weather really cooperated.
By the way,everyone loved Pittsburgh. People who hadn't been there before expected dirty, boring etc. Instead, there was much to explore and we all had a great time. Thanks for the help!!
