Pet friendly luxury hotel in Manhattan NYC

I'm looking for a pet-friendly, luxury 4-5 star hotel located in mid-town for late December 2007. I know there's the Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, and The London. Are there any others? I'm discovering that a lot of the hotels in NYC aren't listed on Travelocity or Expedia, or at least they're not listed as "pet-friendly" (such as the Helmsley Hotels, which does allow pets). Thanks for the help!

I believe all Kimptpon Hotels are pet friendly..
Check 70 Park Avenue...

You might also check the St. Regis and Carlyle. The Hotel Elysee might also be a possibility. To be honest, most luxury hotels are pet-friendly to some degree, as long as you have a small dog. You really have to call the hotel and not rely on web sites and secondary sources, though.

All the www.affinia.com hotels (most are 3* but the Benjamin is 4*) are pet friendly.

Here's a list
http://hotels.about.com/od/nycpetfri..._York_City.htm

Of those, Soho Grand, Loew's Regency, 70 Park, Carlyle, Omni Berkshire are 4 star

Here's another list claiming the W's are pet friendly

Here's another that includes the Sofitel and says Trump Int'l will accept small dogs

Here's yet another that list the Plaza Athenee accepting small dogs

and another that claims the Maritime allows small dogs and confirms the Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly

I believe the Carlyle may have a 35-pound weight limit which, if true, is unfortunate since it is located so close to Central Park.

We stayed at the Benjamin in Midtown and it is a 4* hotel and they are very pet friendly and it was a lovely hotel..
We had a one bedroom suite with kitchenette.
Right across the street from the Waldorf Astoria..

I'd also add the W Union Square to your list.

As far as I know, the Kimptons don't have size limits since Pup is in the Big Dog class. ((&))

Four Seasons are alway nice.
The Muse hotel is another Kimpton hotel to look at.

I would NOT book a luxury hotel on Travelocity or Expedia, but that's just me.

My recollection is that the Parker Meridian allows pets. Even had a room service menu for dogs!

By pet I assume you mean dog (don;t know any places that will take cats or others). Be sure to check on any size limits (some are 20 lbs, some are 35) and find out what the arrangements are if you're out for the day. (There are few places in NYC you can take dogs - including restaurants - so will you put the pet in doggy day care?)

mclaurie Dec 3rd, 2007 11:07 AM

Some of the places I listed take cats.

nytraveler , Pup went to Barneys and enjoyed many outdoor cafes..lol

I'd pick something near Central Park. I don't know about you, but my dogs have a bad attitude about doing their business on pavement - they want GRASS.

(And YES I do clean up.)

nytraveler Dec 3rd, 2007 04:35 PM

Yes - you can do outdoor cafes (by keeping the dog on the outside of the fence) - but the OP is going in Dec - and the outdoor cafes won't be open. And you certainly won;t want to tie your dog to the outside of a building the whole time of a meal.

Also- time in the park and doggie playgrounds can be limited in Dec - based on weather. (We had first snow yesterday - and after a very warm October we're now having normal - of high in the 40's - but Dec could be really cold.)

So - I would be prepared with doggy daycare options (the hotel may even offer something) - since the hotel won;t want you to leave the dog alone in the room.

starrsville Dec 3rd, 2007 04:37 PM

Some hotels don't mind if the dog is left in the room. Some require that the dog is kenneled or there is a "do not disturb" sign on the door, but some hotels do allow dogs to remain in the room. Some offer dog walker suggestions as well.

The Regency is pet friendly.

lcuy Dec 3rd, 2007 09:34 PM

Kimpton hotels are all VERY pet friendly.

If Scarlett's Pup stayed at 70 Park Ave, your dog will fit (he's handsome and HUGE!)

There's another Kimpton in NYC too.

The Four Seasons (on 57th) is pet-friendly.
