stopping in oahu for 1 day on a return. want to go see pearl harbor. out flight arrives at 9:30 am and we are renting a car. what are the chances of getting tickets to the memorial? stopping over on aug 9, a tuesday. i know they hand out free tickets but if they are all gone then what?

Tickets are first come first serve. You cannot get them until the day of the tour.

Each person has to to be in line to get tickets.

They are never all gone until the afternoon.

There may be up to an hour long to get the tickets and you may have to wait 30 minutes to 2 hours for your tour to start. Usually no more than an hour.

The wait for the tour after you get the tickets is not too bad because you can use the time to visit the museum area, the gift shop and go to the back lawn to get some nice pictures.

Yup. Just get there as early as possible. You may have to stay in line for 1 to 1.5 hrs to get tickets. Be there before the bus load of tourists. You can also join an organized tour. It's all worth the wait though. You'll have goosebumps at the Aruzona Memorial. If you have more time, you can check out Mighty Mo.

Actually, when you arrive at the Memorial, you are assigned a Group # ticket by the park ranger. Then, you are free to roam around the site until your Group # is called. The ranger told us it would be about 2 hours before we were going to be called, so we headed out to do other things. There are shops, and a tent food court across the parking lot for refreshments and to check your purse/personal belongings, which were not allowed into the Memorial site.

Once they call your Group #, you proceed to the theater to watch a 20-25 minute video, then proceed to the pier to catch the shuttle out to the memorial site. There are 2 shuttles running, and they drop off one group, and pick up the other. It's pretty well organized. ((b))

We arrived at Pearl Harbor about 11:00 am. We didn't have to wait in line to get a ticket. The tour time was scheduled for 1:30 so we went to the swap meet up the road for a few hours.
