Paying Electronic Toll for Crossing Golden Gate Bridge

I've been trying to figure out the best/cost effective way for paying the toll for crossing the GG bridge in a rental car. I thought I would do the one time online option, but reading about it, makes it sound as off any crossings for 30 days will be charged to my credit card. We would be turning the rental car back the day after crossing the bridge and would not want to be responsible for others using the same rental car crossing the bridge. Here's the wording and perhaps I am not understanding. https://www.bayareafastrak.org/vecto...TPAccount.html

Alternately we can make a one time cash payment, but then we must find a location to do this. At this point that seems like the best option.

I will check with the rental car company, Enterprise, but I am making an assumption their "convenience fee" may be some ridiculous amount.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

When I went last year, it was a dream of my mom's to drive over the GG bridge so we did. I never thought to use an easy pass for one time use as we only needed to pay coming in one time and paid cash at the toll. I'm not why you think paying cash for a one time payment would be a hassle unless you think you will be coming through at rush hour? If my memory is correct, we come through on a Wednesday evening right around 5 or 6 pm and didn't wait long at the toll but I'm not a regular so maybe it was a once off event.

As I understand, now there are no people to collect the toll crossing the bridge.

Oh then this must have changed. Good to know, I did find this website if it helps any http://www.goldengate.org/tolls/rentalvehicles.php. When you go, it would be good to post back on how you paid as this was new to me but again I live in the east coast so don't go to San Franciso much.

On that online form there is an 'effective date' and 'payment valid until' date. If the GGB is the only toll bridge you plan on crossing, just use the date you are crossing for both fields. No further payments are authorized after the 'valid until' date or before the 'effective date.'

You can also pay by phone before you cross the bridge. (check hours of operations)

Ah, yes! thank you. I missed the "valid until date."

We do this often as we don't have a car and rent on a regular basis. We always do the one-time payment and list the earliest/latest days we will have the car. Works great and saves the $15-20 surcharge form most car rental companies!

yestravel, I don't think you're reading the site correctly. We did ours online for a single use. Entering the day before we were to go across the bridge as the start date and the day we were doing the crossing as the final date as we were turning the car in when we got to SF. We were charged for the single crossing. Couldn't have been easier. You can enter the date you will cross and no charges will be made after that date.

Ooops. NOW I see that you already found that out.
