Pawleys Island

My husband and I have 4 kids (2-13), and we all would like a nice, quiet beach vacation in Pawleys Island...any recomendations as far as cottage vs. condo, and which section of the island is nicest?

There are very few condos on Pawleys Island. When the one condo building that is on the island was being built, the homeowners got together, incorporated the island and forbid all building that aren't single family homes. There are no businesses on the island either you must go the mainland.

Few to none of the condo owners rent so you may be forced to go with a house. June-August you are looking at around $3500+ for oceanfront and less for non oceanfront. I would check with Pawleys Island Realty to see what they have available.

Having said the above, Pawleys is one of the best places on earth. Think slow drip valium IV. Very laid back.

I would wonder if you can get anything now. The other poster has explained just what Pawley's is. You might look at the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort site. They have a variety of offerings--it is on the mainland part of Pawley's. Very nice beach and not real crowded even in mid-summer high season.

you may also want to look into surfside which is a more family oriented beach area. pawley's island is by far one of my favorite beaches though...but, there isn't much to do with kids there except lay at the beach. i'm confused by gotravel's remark about "going to the mainland" pawley's isn't really an island it's a strip of land almost surrounded by ocean and marsh but not truly an island. you may also want to look into dinners in murrels inlet...on the marsh lots of great seafood places. and you must try to go to Brookgreen Gardens...it's a botanical/sculpture garden, beautiful though and they do have a small animal/zoo area to amuse smaller kids.

stag, Pawleys is referred to as the island and the mainland. It is a barrier island geographically.
