Pawley's Island
I would appreciate comments on Pawley's Island. Is it a large island? Is there much going on? Are there many or any hotels there? What is the beach like? Is it a resort area or more residential? What are the people like? Thanks.

Gigi,

the best help I can give is probably to top your question.

I have visited Pawley's but never stayed there, so I am not an expert by any means.

But I can tell you that it is very residential, there may be a few hotels, but I am not sure about that. There are mainly houses for rent.

The beach is great, unspoiled. It is a fairly small island, with nothing going on except what you bring with you.

Thanks so much Chuck. That is, basically, the information I was looking for.

Gigi, Pawleys Island is one of the oldest settled barrier islands in the country. Some of the beach houses there date back to 1830's. There are no businesses on Pawleys except for 3 B&B's The Pelican, The SeaView and I can't remember the third. The island is very laid back and a wonderful place to be. If you go, you will fall in love with it.

Thanks- it's good to hear from a native, too. Interesting comments and sounds like a nice place.

What Native said is true about the island itself. It is just charming, particularly the historic district where the rice planters from Charleston spent their summers to escape the mosquitoes, malaria and heat. The town of Pawley's Island is on the mainland across the marsh and bridge and includes the resort of Litchfield. If you look for Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort on the net you will find it. It is a gated community of upscale and beautiful homes, condos, high rises, etc. Excellent restaurants in the area.

Actually Gretchen, the incorporated city of Pawleys Island IS the Island. The mainland is unincorporated.

Good info. I was just trying to tell the person there is another part of it albeit not nearly as charming but perhaps more accessible. Our mailing address at Litchfield by the Sea is Pawley's so was just going by that.

Thanks Gretchen & Native for more good info.
