Patsy's Italian Restaurant
 

We have reservations at Patsy's prior to the broadway show we're seeing on Nov. 24th. In your opinion, is this a good choice for a restaurant? Looked at the menu and it seems nice. Wanted to have a fairly nice dinner before the show. It's so hard to pick a restaurant from so many choices! Thanks!

I have been to Patsys several times and it has been delicious. They also have a very good pretheater menu that gets you in and out fast. Its a wonderful, family run business, and Frank Sinatra used to eat there all the time. IMO Good Choice!

Also Rosemary Clooney ate there a lot.

My wife and I, in NYC for a few days and staying at the Marriott Marquis, ate at Patsy's back in June. We considered it OK, but nothing special -- if you happen to be from Chicagoland, you will likely be disappointed. In the same general area, we preferred the food both at Sardi's and at Bubba Gumps'-- no wait at Sardi's, 20 minute wait at Bubba Gumps' -- Patsy's was much quieter than either of these, however. From past trips, we also know that we like the revolving restaurant at the Marquis, but it was closed for remodeling during this trip.

Patsy's is the ex Sinatra haunt. The food is ok Italian red sauce. The decor is very tired. It's not really in the center of the theater district. There are MANY better Italian choices both for food and ambiance. On restaurant row (46th st b/w 8th-9th) Becco has a $21.95 pasta special dinner, Lattanzi is excellent and very pretty. Orso, same street very trendy.

Trattoria Trecolori on west 45th very good, very affordable.

I was just made aware of Patsy's through this thread (I'm not from NY), but saw that spaghetti sauce prominently displayed at the grocery store for the first time tonight!

Was fairly expensive, but maybe worth a try--anybody else tried this?

Its pretty good. My husband, being a New York Italian is very picky about his "gravy" and he didn't mind this one. Not like homemade, but very good.

We've tried Patsy's sauce, overpriced in our opinion. Can't beat Barilla for a jarred tomato sauce with good ingredients. It contains only tomato, olive oil and seasonings.

I totally agree with mclaurie's comments.

I have eaten at Patsy's twice and look forward to going back. I recommend it highly.

As the woman I live with is half Italian, sauce in a jar is not allowed in our apartment... it's homemade gravy all the way.

My mom lives up near Patsy's and it's okay. IMO, kind of living off the Sinatra thing.

For Italian food, Northern (not red sauce) in the area, we like Belo at 863 Ninth Ave, @ 56th Street.

HATED IT! I went there with my husband and friend's last month for a little get together. We chose this restaurant because my friend wanted to try it so badly. I live in Manhattan and I can't believe I eat here. It is super touristy and they have you on a schedule. Once you are done eating, they want you OUT! My friend's husband was not even done with his dinner, but because he made the mistake of going to the men's room, the waiter took his plate. They were very rude to us. I also think it is over priced. There was 6 of us, we shared a few appetizers, dinner, a few drinks and 1 coffee. The check was nearly $ 900.00. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BABBO....my favorite...or if you want something similar to Patsy's, try Baldoria. (Since you cant get into Rao's, which is the same owner, try this place) Very good and they have live entertainmnet on weekends. DONT GO TO PATSY'S!! Please do your self a favor!
