Passports at the Police Dept.
FYI
Lake Stevens Washington Police are reporting that they now have applications for renewal or new passports. I find this odd. Is there others? |
We had ours done at the Mill Creek WA Police Deptartment. I never thought twice about this. But I wonder if I can go to our new local Police Dept in OR and get our renewals. Guess I should call.
|
Hi mms, also check with your post office. Ours now offers passport service until 2:00pm Monday through Saturday.
|
You can find out on line at the State Dept website.
http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/ You can put in your zip code and find the nearest office. I believe they are commonly in post offices, municipal buildings and court houses. Each has different hours, so you need to check. There can be long lines, so be sure you have all the right paper work. I once stood behind a family who waited forever and the father hadn't signed the papers, so they were DOA when they finally got their turn. |
Do they charge anything additional for renewal like post office $30? Or is it only $67 for renewal?
|
Topping. I hope somebody knows if police charge additional fee.
|
See the following site for info on U.S. passport fees. The fees are the same no matter where you apply for your passport.

Where I am, we go to the License Bureau where we renew our License. Post office does not do it, nor our police departments.
|
LongHorn, thank you, but why then the post offices charge additional $30?
I called a post office, they warned me about that additional charge. I hoped somebody would know if police charge some "processing fee" or something similar, that's all. No, I don't dare to call police :) |
The $30 processing fee is assessed whether applications sent direct to a Passsport office or having it processed thru a post office, license bureau, police department, etc. It's not "additional" it is the processing fee in addition to actual fee for new or renewal passport. Only if you wish "expedite" service do you pay an additional $60.
|
Sandi, I sent a check of $67 to the processing center, and got the new passport.
If I'd go to a post office, I'd have to write a check for $97 ($30 additional for "processing") At least this is how it was in San Francisco in April 2007. |
