passport

My passport has my maiden name on it. Is it still valid if my drivers license has my first, maiden, and married name.

Your passport has nothing to do w/ your drivers license. How long ago did you get married?

In any case, you really should get your passport updated - can be done quickly if a trip is in the near future.

It is absolutely necessary that the name on your passport matches the name on your airline tickets.

Hi solg, as janis said, your drivers license has nothing to do with your passport.

How soon are you leaving the country? Your name on your airline ticket MUST be exactly as the name on your passport.

If you are leaving shortly for a trip out of the country than make sure that the airline ticket you buy shows your name exactly as your passport name reads.

If you are not going on a trip for some time than have your passport amended to show your married name and than have your airline ticket read the same as your amended passport.

Yes, I do know this for sure. Just had a family member go spur of the moment to Italy and her passport was in her "old name" rather than in her new married name. So the airline ticket was written in her "old name" so that it matched her passport name.

Again, how soon are you planning on flying out of the US?

As a last resort if you don't have your passport changed to your married name, you used to be able to bring your original marriage liscense to show who you were and who you are now. But I'd check on that before I used it.

I always had a folded up copy of my marriage certif in my passport with no problems.

You should get an updated passport ASAP whether or not you think you need it or how soon you are traveling. The problem will continue to haunt you until you just get it done.

I took care of it the other way-got divorced and reinstated my maiden name so I didn't need to change my passport. :-)

ROTFL Wednesday. That is certainly one way to take care of the hassle of changing your name on your passport ;;). Thanks for the good laugh today!

I could have wrung my daughter's neck when she and her husband had to rush to Rome the first part of June. She had never changed her passport. I have nagged her 2 to 3 times a year for quite awhile, but who listens to their mother? But NW said as long as they issued her ticket in the same as her passport name there would be no problem. And there wasn't. My DD kept saying "but what if they ask for my driver's license?" I finally screamed at her when we were driving to SFO "they WON'T ask for your driver's license and keep your stupid driver's license in your wallet and out of sight. Get it?" Grrr! Anyway, of course all was fine as her ticket name was issued in the name on her passport.

But I would encourage anyone that needs to update their passport to do so asap.

And that is why I never changed my name.

LoveItaly Jul 3rd, 2005 04:47 PM

Well Sylvia3, personally I understand exactly what you are saying.

I am not anti-male, not at all. I think most males are wonderful and special people.

However, from the time I was in HS I wondered why a male was born with a name and kept it all his life but women were constantly having to change their name. Well maybe not constantly but you know what I mean.

But my thinking in HS, in the 1950's, was not something that you expressed.
But my thinking has never changed. Why can't women just keep the name they were born with? BTW, in Italy they do.
