Paso Robles Dining and Hotel
A group of us (3 couples) want to go to the Paso Robles Wine Festival May 14-16. I'm looking for recommendations on a place to stay and some great restaurants. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We'll be driving in from Los Angeles. Thanks!

I live in the area, so I've never stayed at any of the hotels. But I know Justin Winery has a nice facility and a small inn. It is a little far from town but they have their own restaurant where I've had lunch and it's quite nice. Also Summerwood Winery has a small inn. Located right in town is the Paso Robles Inn which would be convenient as far as being near most of the restaurants.
Alloro and Bueno Tavola are good for Italian food. Bistro Laurent is well thought of for French cuisine. Panolivo and Paris are also pretty well thought of. For something more casual Oddesy World Cafe is good for a casual meal. For something really casual Good Ol Burgers has great burgers, onion rings and shakes. A little further away, McPhee's Grill in Templeton is a good choice.
Have fun and enjoy a beautiful area with some great wine!

It's been a few years since I've stayed in Paso Robles, but my recollection of the Paso Robles Inn is that it is very old. If you like a hotel out of the old West, like Gunsmoke, where the wooden stairs creak, etc., then you'll love the Paso Robles Inn.
AT the other end, I've also stayed at the Black Oak Lodge which is at the junction of 101 and 46. It's an average type of motel.
Right next door is the Adelaide Inn. That's my favorite place to stay in Paso Robles.
Both the Black Oak and the Adelaide are standard motels, but the Adelaide is cheaper and, somehow, nicer. Get an upstairs room.
If you are willing to drive a bit, there's La Cuesta Inn in San Luis Obispo. Hotels in San Luis cost a bit more than in Paso.
If you like steak, try AJ Spurs in Templeton. Or the all time steak favorite is McLintock's at Pismo Beach.

You must check out the Franklin Hot Springs. They are located on Creston road just outside of town. $5.00 gets you entry for the day. You can stay as long as you like. They are open from 7 am to midnight.

What is your price range and your accomodation preference. We have some great B&B's but they can be quite pricey. I would suggest booking early. Tough to find a place around here during the wine festival. I would not recommend Franklin hot springs - gross. Restaurants will need early reservations also. Alloro is no longer. It has been replaced by 1215. Good foor, very noisy. Paris, Bistro Laurent and Villa Creek offer the more innovative food. If you wish to e-mail me at [email protected], I'll help you with some ideas.

I would go for Buona Tavola for dinner in towntown Paso. Excellent northern Italian food in a very nice setting. www.btslo.com
What is your budget? The Villa Toscana @ the Martin & Weyrich winery is amazing. www.myvillatoscana.com For moderate accomodations, but very nice check out the Chanticleer Vineyard Bed & Breakfast. www.chanticleervineyardbb.com I haven't stayed here, we usually just wine taste on our way over to Cambria, but either one of these places sound very nice. Cheers! Don't miss Wild Coyote (the house of reds) for the wonderful zins and merlots. ***kim***
