Pasadena Motel/Hotel for under $90

Please advise on which motel to stay at in Pasadena, CA. We are thinking of staying at the Comfort Inn. We will have a car and want to visit the Old Pasadena Shopping/Restaurant area where our son works.

We could chance the Courtyard by the Marriott by bidding on Priceline, but I've never used it. I would want to pay some where in the area of $85. for a room.

Please advise.

I'm assuming that you are saying you have never used Priceline before?

If so, then you've come to the right place, because there are a number of very knowledgeable Fodorites who can help you with your first Priceline bid.

Have you looked at biddingfortravel.com?

Look under "Los Angeles Suburbs and Surrounding Areas"

Pasadena is listed under "San Gabriel Valley"

right now the 3.5 Pasadena Hilton has been successfully bid at $75 (plus tax and fees = ~$90)

Others are the 3* Courtyard in Monrovia which went for $55 (+ tax and fees = ~$70).

Pasadena Renaissance 3.5* for $55+.

Please don't make any bids on Priceline until you have come back and discussed things with us. Very important that you not dive right in, but understand the process first.

Thank you for your concern about my using Priceline without discussing things with you. We have just returned from our trip to Pasadena and because of the rushed time schedule, we decided on using the Comfort Inn. We are not sorry at all for booking a room there. It was just fine for the time we were there, - - - very clean, comfortable beds, and a very good breakfast. We would definitely use this motel again.

However, if we could get a room by bidding for under $90 for any one of the downtown hotels, we may try the next visit. So, we would still need advice. Thank you.

Glad the comfort Inn worked out for you!

I didn't mean to be intrusive in your affairs and may have come across wrong. I'm certain you will do fine bidding on Priceline. It's just that there have been some posts from people who just dove right in and sometimes bid more than even the list price! but if you feel like you will really need help, do come back and ask, there are any number of Fodorites who can help you through the bidding process. I learnt to use Priceline with the help here on Fodors.

For downtown LA, you can get a very nice 4* like the Westin Bonaventura for about $70-$75, which plus taxes and fees will be very close to $90.
