parking while in manhatten
 

my wife and i are driving from nova scotia to nyc in early may. any suggestions as to where we should park. will be staying at the larchmont. would long term parking be an option? any suggestions would be appreciated.

sorry that my message did not make much sense, by long term parking i meant at one of the airports.

Have you contacted the hotel about parking? Perhaps they even have an arrangement with a nearby garage at a discount. Or if not, they probably know prices in that neighborhood.

we will in manhatten 4 nights (checking in on sunday and leaving on thursday).i am not used to anything close to manhatten when it comes to driving. when we made our trip to nyc a couple of years ago flew into jfk and found the subway ride to be great. i will take you up on contacting the hotel. al

You've got a few options. First, I'd get in touch with the hotel and see what they can offer. If the rates they quote seem pretty expensive, you can make a few calls to nearby garages to check out their rates. In general, you can expect to pay $25-$37 for 24hr in that neighborhood. If you want to pay less, I'd suggest dropping your luggage at the hotel and then parking farther away (if you're not planning to use the car). Outdoor lots are going to be cheaper than indoor garages. You can check out all the locations and rates for all 1,113 garages in NYC with a great new book, Park It! Parking at the airports makes no sense for only a couple of night. It's not that cheap and JFK and EWR are both very time-consuming to get to and from (do you want to lose most of a day trekking back and forth on public transit with luggage?).

I would simply bite the bullet and get parking near the hotel.

(Uptown garages typically have low rates for day parkers only - since many of their monthly tenants are gone during the day - but if you're there for several overnights they're not much less than midtown.)

I guess I am in the minority again. When we have driven to NYC we drive to Newark, leave our car in long-term parking and take a shuttle to the hotel. I know it sounds ridiculous and probably does not save us money, but neither my husband or myself could handle driving in Manhattan. We are not spring chickens and it just would be unnerving for us. So...it is nice to know there is an alternative.

iconparking.com will have a garage near your hotel. Drop your wife off at the hotel with the luggage and park the car for your stay. Don't bother dragging luggage from airports or from outside the city.
