I would imagine there would be no problem getting into the garage any weekday, except possibly Wednesdays. Some people from nearby areas drive into the city for theater matinees that day and might also go to the museum
Just curious--are you coming in from the suburbs? Most people don't come to NY with a car since getting around and parking at every stop would be expensive and time consuming

There are also garages in the area that will be cheaper if you don't mind walking a few blocks. Iconparking.com allows you to reserve a spot and get a confirmed price for the length of your stay. Look in the east 80's on their website after putting in your anticipated date/time in and out.

I always park in their garage and have never had a problem finding a spot. I haven't been there on a weekend, though.

NO problem during the week, but it does fill up some weekends. So, for the latter, get there in the morning to be safe.
It's not cheap.....but it's so convenient!

I always use the Met garage and was just there on Sunday (We're members and that is when we usually go. I have found Saturday mornings much busier.) We usually show up about eleven AM and there are always spaces. Get your parking ticket validated when you pay your admission to save a few dollars.

The Rembrandt exhibit is excellent. We saw it during a members' preview and it was fairly busy. So, I will have to assume that it will be very busy now.
The advice is the same for any visit to the Met: Go early (especially on weekends)!

We saw it Sunday too. It is a very impressive collection. However, it is organized by donor, or sometimes by the time period in which it was acquired. This has the effect of breaking up the Rembrandts and Vermeers and what have you into different rooms -- and mixing still-lifes next to maritime scenes next to architectural themes. To me that lessened the impact.

However, if you love Dutch painting you should go. I think somewhat more than a third of the collection is seldom or never on view, and this is your chance to see those hidden (mostly) gems.

As far as crowds, I have always found, as I said above, that that Saturday morning is busier than Sunday morning, and that on both days it becomes increasingly crowded in the afternoon. My advice would be to arrive between ten and eleven on Sunday morning.

One other bit of advice: Definitely rent the audio tape for the exhibit.
