Parking in Yosemite

I've been reading all the posts regarding traffic and parking issues in Yosemite. As a foreigner and a first time travel to Yosemite I need a little information.
We are travelling in October and I know the numbers will be down then also we will be there during the week. For those staying in the park (Yosemite Lodge At The Falls) is there automatic parking or do we have to fight for a spot. Are the chances of a spot near the accomodation good?
Once parked I guess we will leave the car there and jump on and off the shuttles. Are there designated areas in the park for parking or do people park anywhere along the road?

You won't have to worry about parking in Yosemite Valley in October.

Parking is provided on the premises for Yosemite Lodge at the Falls guests. Day use parking is provided in the Yosemite Village area with easy access to the free Valley Shuttle.

There are other areas to park your vehicle and ride the free shuttles in Yosemite Valley. One large lot is near Curry Village and the other is near the Yosemite Village Store.

Sorry I'm a dill! I haven't been back to the Lodge website since I booked it a couple of weeks ago. That's way too logical for me! Thank you for the post utahtea
PS next time we travel through the US we will include Utah-I need to visit the great scrapbooking stores there!

We usually dump our luggage out near our room at the National Park lodges, then park the car and sometimes might have a 5 or 10 minute walk at the most. Sometime, lucky enough to park very close. We were there during the off-season last year(mid-May) and I suspect that you will have even less traffic than we did. It was slightly crowded a time or two, but never a problem. If this is your first National Park Lodge experience take note that most of them are dated and really not that great(I love them though). You are staying at one of the better ones. I would eat at least one meal in the Awahnee. Sunday Brunch there is very good and the best bargain, even though still a little pricey. Hopefully, you'll get some fall foliage colors while you are there.

will be a piece of cake. The ONLY parking (and traffic) problems occur between mid/late June and late August. In Oct you will have your choice of places to park. Some don't take us seriously when we warn how crowded the Park gets in Summer -- now you see what we mean.

You will park at the Lodge and be (depending on which building you are staying) w/i a few feet up to maybe 75 yards from your room.
