Parking in West Hollywood?
My wife and I are going to be staying with some friends in West Hollywood in about a month, and I'm finding very little information about available overnight parking. It seems that based on the info I CAN find, this area is pretty congested anyway, and I'm wondering what my options will be? We'll have a rental car. My friends are telling me that parking "on the street" will be fine, but i'm kind of skeptical. Do the area hotels allow non-guests to park on their property(s) overnight? I know there would be a fee involved if they do. Can any of you give me any other ideas regarding overnight parking? Thanks for any help...

Depending on exactly where you are, parking there can be a problem. Most street parking that I'm familiar with requires a resident permit. I'm not sure, but I'd think your friends if they are residents can get you a temporary permit.
Since most hotels charge an arm and a leg for parking, I don't see a benefit of parking there. If you are close to somewhere like the Pacific Design Center, or the bigger shopping centers, or the movies on Sunset, I would assume you could pay for overnight parking in their garages.

Years ago I used to date someone who lived in West Hollywood a few blocks east of that intersection. At the time, the roads south of Santa Monica Blvd still allowed no-permit street parking (but be careful of street cleaning days); roads north of Santa Monica Blvd had permit-only parking for residents (and stiff fines for violations). This may have changed. I also recall that parking could be a real pain on the weekends.
If your friends say that street parking is "no problem", they probably live fairly close to Santa Monica or La Ciénega-- since they're heavily commercial, surrounding streets allow parking for shoppers, diners and what-not. Have your friends check the streets immediately around their home. They should have a spare permit to loan you if required (the cities allots a couple per address, if I'm not mistaken).

talked to my friends last night, and they live on a street that doesn't require a permit to park. so, it will be challenging to find a spot, but not impossible. Thank you all for all of the info, it's been helpful and I've learned a lot about parking in LA in general.
What are the peek hours in West Hollywood when it would be most difficult to find a parking spot?

I live in that same area and it's not that difficult to find street parking. It is actually easier on the permit streets. Most people have guest parking permits, maybe your friends have one you can use?

I actually asked about the guest parking permit, and they don't have one, but i might ask if they could go pick one up for us, just in case. The apartment is on North Croft, a couple of blocks south of Santa Monica, and I think each tennant in that building has two reserved parking spaces in an underground parking garage (?). But, I'm going to trust them and just go with the flow. I'm sure it will all work out.
